I just kind of realized that I have been doing this, and I'd say I'm not alone on this boat. Does anyone else actually kind of wish time by to a point where you will be bigger and/or stronger?
For those who are like me, I think we just need to slow down, and actually think about the reasons we do this.
For most I'm guessing it's for one these reasons:
- be more attractive (to the opposite sex)
- be healthy and feel better
- competition
- look intimidating/fight better? (I seriously think a lot of people lift for this reason, esp. younger kids who get picked on)
- simply be bigger/stronger
I personally lift to stay healthy and be bigger/stronger, and use gains in strength/size as motivation to continue lifting. I'm ok with the way I look now, but for some reason I still think to myself "man I wish I could skip ahead to where I weigh 200 lbs lean."
Anyways, this is probably the crappiest article in the history of crappy articles (in fact, it's really not even an article, but I had no idea where else to place it), but the point is :
Don't wish your life away. Enjoy lifting weights and appreciate each day that you get to. You'll get bigger, stronger, leaner, more competitive, find your mate, and/or stop getting picked on in time, and if you wish it by and are constantly worried about that one thing (whatever it is), then when you get there you may regret it. Life is short...appreciate every day no matter what your max is for that particular day...
There's nothing wrong with setting goals and really wanting them, I just hope that no one lets them consume their every day.
