Dissertation/Thesis information - Monday, April 03, 2006 9:09 AM ( #1 )
Hi, i am currently writing and researching for my third year dissertation in Sport and exercise science. I have chosen "macronutrient recommendations and requirements of recreational bodybuilders" as my hypothesis, but as yet have only found a few journal articles on the subject.

i am researching strenth and conditioning journals, as well as applied physiology, but as i say have found little reliable research. i though i'd post to see if any body may have any links or ideas as to where i can get any validated information in the study of nutrition in bodybuilding.

thanks in advance, guys

There is a great difference between a "recreational weight lifter" and a "bodybuilder". Which aspect are you targeting?

what do you mean old fart? there are plenty of recreational bodybuilders out there, and there nutritional requirements are no different than pro bodybuilders! other than slight alterations, the basics for gaining mass and strength are the same! if you read my post you will see no mention of 'recreational weightlifters'!

YOU MUST BE KIDDING! IF IN FACT YOU ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS, YOU'RE IN NO POSITION TO WRITE A PAPER ON IT!

other than slight alterations, the basics for gaining mass and strength are the same!

YOU ARE UNDER EDUCATED AND OBVIOUSLY HAVE NEVER ADDED ANY APPRECIABLE AMOUNT OF MUSCLE MASS.

if you read my post you will see no mention of 'recreational weightlifters'!

YOU'RE RIGHT. I WAS BEING POLITE! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RECREATIONAL BODYBUILDER! EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES TO PEOPLE WHO NO NOTHING ABOUT THE SPORT AND HAVE NEVER WORKED HARD ENOUGH!!!

Have a nice day.

what makes you an authority on bodybuilding, and what would you call the members of this site who don't compete but train for size and definition!!

what makes you an authority on bodybuilding,

I'M NOT AN AUTHORITY, JUST EXPERIENCED.

and what would you call the members of this site who don't compete but train for size and definition!!

THERE IS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFTING WEIGHTS AND RESHAPING ONE'S PHYSIQUE. I'VE SPENT FIVE YEARS LIFTING WEIGHTS AND THE LAST SIX BODYBUILDING. I'VE SPENT THE LAST 6 YEARS LEARNING ABOUT NUTRIENTS AND THE LAST THREE WORKING TOWARDS MY DEGREE IN NUTRITION. THERE IS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RECREATIONAL WEIGHT LIFTING AND BODYBUILDING AND IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE YOUR PAPER WILL BE A JOKE AMONG THOSE WHO HAVE ACTUALLY MADE PROGRESS IN THIS SPORT. I TAKE IT YOU DO NOT BODYBUILD? WITH ALL THE RESEARCH INFORMATION AVAILABLE WITHIN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY AND INTERNET, WHY WOULD YOU COME TO A BODYBUILDING SIGHT OF NOVICES TO GET THESIS INFORMATION? WHAT BOOKS HAVE YOU READ TO DATE ON THIS SUBJECT. WHAT RESEARCH MATERIAL HAVE YOU USED SO FAR? OR IS THIS CATAGORIZED UNDER "SURVEY"...??

bod·y·build·ing  (bd-bldng)
n.

The process of developing the musculature of the body through specific types of diet and physical exercise, such as weightlifting, especially for competitive exhibition.

So by that definition, I would think that there could be recreational body builders. I dont tend to look at it as anyone who has an IFBB card is a body builder and the rest are lifters. I would also suggest you break it down into age catagories, as teens are starting to body build, and so are "oldfarts".

BY DEFINITION...??? I LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD. BUILDING MUSCLE IS HARD WORK AND TAKES DEDICATION. YOU DON'T DO IT ON PAPER....

I dont tend to look at it as anyone who has an IFBB card is a body builder and the rest are lifters.

NEITHER DO I, BUT IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFTING WEIGHTS AND BODYBUILDING, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE IN INTENSITY AND DRIVE. THERE IS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE AND YOU CAN READ THROUGH THOUSANDS OF POSTS OF NOVICES WHO NEVER PROGRESS AT ALL IN THIS SPORT. IF BUILDING MUSCLE WAS THAT EASY, IT WOULD BE THE NORM AND EVERYONE WOULD BE WALKING AROUND WITH 20 INCH ARMS.

I would also suggest you break it down into age catagories, as teens are starting to body build, and so are "oldfarts".

PLEASE ELABORATE. HOW SHOULD WE "OLD PEOPLE" EAT DIFFERENTLY THEN TEEN BODYBUILDERS? BODYBUILDERS, NOT CASUAL LIFTERS.

Thank you.
