When I was a teenager I used to hang out with guys like that, and I was working out then. It's a different mentality. When you haven't invested a great deal of time and effort in yourself, but everything is still working the way it's supposed to you tend to take your body for granted. These guys do not have the dedication to their health that you do, so they think nothing of popping mood altering substances to get some excitement out of life. They don't have to worry about how their workouts will be affected. They have more spare time because they don't have to work out and eat all day long. They don't have to spend their money on healthy food or supplements. Let's not forget the real issue: Partying is fun and usually involves this type of mental priming. Most people can't take charge and have some real fun at a party without getting stupid first. It takes effort and mental sharpness to be the life of the party intentionally. Most people are either too shy, too boring, or too stupid to be entertaining characters without drug involvement. Drugs are just another example of the easy way out, which many bodybuilders are also guilty of. In that respect, don't be too judgemental.

It all comes down to discipline. Here's an interesting quote I found the other day which I believe applies to the lifestyle of working out. And to alot of other things:

"No system can long command the loyalties of men and women which does not expect of them certain measures of discipline, and particularly self-discipline. The cost in comfort may be great. The sacrifice may be real. But this very demanding reality is the substance of which comes character and strength and nobility.

Permissiveness never produced greatness. Integrity, loyalty, and strenth are virtues whose sinews are developed through the struggles that go on within us as we practice self-discipline under the demands of the divinely spoken truth."

~Gordon Hinckley
