Well, I have recently read an article that taking more than the RDA of vitamins--especially the fat-soluable ones, ie. A, D, E, etc.--can be potentially damaging, not just in the form of overdose, but damage at the cellular level. Many vitamins/minerals do not work together with other vitamins/minerals, ie. excessive zinc can deplete your body' s calcium stores. I have continuously heard from bodybuilding experts in magazines that bodybuilders should never follow RDA' s and should take higher doses, because of the extreme stress. However, I don' t think that %500 increase is appropriate; do we work our bodies %500 more than the average person? But then again, who am I? I usually take a low dose daily twice a day. Unless your diet consists of twinkies and pork chops, I don' t think you will be lacking any vitamins or minerals if you only take a low dose multi.

Oh, I forgot: Fat-soluable vitamins and minerals will never be depleted by drinking water; operative word: fat-soluable. The water-soluable vitamins can be depleted by drinking excessive amounts of water. It' s advisable to take all vitamins in small doses throughout the day to counter any flushing.

I have read some information on vitamin C in the past. If you take too much it will give you the runs. I currently take 3000 mg over the day with no problems.
