Hey guys I'm currently 16 and want a starting spot on my varsity high school football team. I'm not the most ripped guy but I do work out reguarly(mostly for basketball). I'm 6'2 205 and wandering what size and weight I need to get to. By the way, were pretty bad so its not I have to Rocky mode to get a spot. Any training tecniques? Speed training and weight training would be nice...

I played a little de in hs. I would say there is no set size for the postion. Rush ends tend to be faster, but it all depends are your defense and your role in it. You may lineup on a te and be used to stop the run, which would require more bulk. Lifting you want to concentrate on core lifts like bench, squats, and deadlifts. As for drills, I would would on plyometics and explosive exercises. you want to be the first one off the ball and stay low. Work on your technique and getting your hands quicker becasue you want to keep the offensive player from getting into your body. Speed is the key. It would take forever for me to type a bunch of example drills, but just google defensive end moves or whatever you are looking for plyometric wise. You might get some garbage, but you should be able to find some good examples. If not go to a barnes and noble and get a drills book.

I played DE for my high school until I fractured my neck..now im the kicker haha. Anyways I'm 6'1 190 and Size wasnt a that big of a deal. DE you really need to be quick and agile. You want to run at least a sub 5 forty. 4.8 is a decent speed. That is if your coach likes to rush your d-ends.

Hey Im in the same place as you. Im a freshman in highschool and the coahes want me to get bigger to get me up to varsity. But what i would recomend it chest, arms, and back. Strong chest arms and back gives you the ability to get separation and either rip throught the guy or swim move. Also you need a strong core and legs this gives you the ability to have a strong powerful athletic postion when you are fighting the guy off. And then the obvious is your explosevness. You need to be the first man off the ball. But what do i know im just a freshman.

I'm an offensive lineman(tackle) and the one thing I hate the most is a DE with speed.

This is an old thread but if your still around I played Tackle also and while speed threw me for the first few plays I always adjusted and unless he was really strong as well as fast and then he was tough but yeah the faster the better. you'll kill the guy off the line and blow by him and if he's any good he'll flatten out and drive you into the ground, but if he never does then your set. when he drives you into the ground change it up fake outside go inside. watch Dwight Freeney, he's maybe the fastest DE in the game but he also has very underrated strength dude is amazing. but try to youtube him IDK if there's anything but definatly try to find tape of him hes great in the pass game, for a more complete DE watch Julius Peppers, with the D's that the colts and panthers run Freeneys job is to be a pass rusher, with the panters peppers job is to be a complete player. Both are a couple of the best at DE.

My opinion and expierence i dont think that their is a requirement for a DE. I played in high school and i was 6'2 and weighted 225. Biggest thing for me was lifting and going hard in practice. Pay attention to detail in your film sessions. If your playing a team on friday night ask the coach for some game film of your next opponet and study that in your free time at home. Watch the guards, tackles, and TE's. Watch how they react to different plays. Watch formations they run. Where they like to go with the ball. Wide side or not. If you do your homework and break down the small things you will blow up some big plays. It also looks good if your playing in front of a scout or something if they see you break down and know what to do when it comes down to it.

I played DE last year, and what i've seen from our squad that speed is key. Be quick and agile work on your shuttle and explosiveness, to beat your lineman off the snap, rip the hell out of him, turn the corner, and nail the QB into the ground. Also work on your basic club and rips club and swims master them, and you'll get your spot.

old post but anyways i would say that from playing TE one year that the fast DE's are the most annoying but to the post that said that a DE in highschool with a sub 4.8 forty is decent speed thats a fast as hell DE.
