Decline/Flat/Incline Bench VS. Slant Board - Tuesday, June 03, 2008 5:34 PM
I currently use a Weider Home Gym system (i.e. cable resistance) and realize I need a bench as well to work with dumbbells, etc.  While searching for an Decline/Flat/Incline Bench, I came upon the Weider 130 Slant Board. The description says this "bench quickly converts into the perfect slant board ... and adjusts to multiple positions, ranging from incline, to decline, to a full-fledge slant board."  Thus, it appears I'm getting more bang for the buck. My question is: I really need a Decline/Flat/Incline Bench ... so can a slant board be used for that too ?  What is the difference between the two ?

Hey nymickey;

From your description, the Weider 130 Slant Board does not convert to a Flat Bench position. I personally have three benches (matter of convenience, bought them over a period of time) but I do find the flat bench necessary for working the overall chest.

The incline/decline also works the chest but mainly the Upper/Lower portions. If you consider the W130SB try performing Dips (in place of the flat bench) which may help the overall chest plus the triceps. Just my 2 cents.

I believe the board you are referring to is an ab board....
If so, this will work for dumbbell training, but will be akward if heavier weights are used.  Have you tried doing different positions of push ups to hit the different pectoral muscles?  The dips as mentioned above are also a great exercise....for these, you can get a 20 dollar walker (senior's walking aide) to get good bang for your buck.  If space is a problem, for 50 bucks you can get a folding variety.
