Deadlifts - Tuesday, September 28, 2004 5:22 PM
I've read articles and heard peoples opinions on deadlifts but where do you include deadlifts? Legs day or back day? Some people say it a back exercise, others say it is a leg exercise, and a few say its an equal relationship. What do you think?

I do them on back day. Hell, I already do squats on leg days, and I know there's no way I can perform my best on deads after those, or vice versa. There's no doubt that they work both back and legs, but I have to either split them up or sacrifice performance, so I split them up.

I chose Back day, because I assumed you meant the regular, romanian style deadlifts. But I do Stiff Leg deadlifts on Leg day, to target my hamstrings. So maybe I should have voted both?
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

I think he meant regular deadlifts- Misanthropy definitely would have made that distinction. I also do stiff leg deads on leg day.

I always did them for my legs, and i was very good at them. Since then ive noticed that my back is bigger than a lot of peoples. SO i think its both.

I do deadlifts on "leg" day. I pull sumo, but also did them on "leg" day when I pulled conventional.

If i pull from pins, which is rare, it's on back day. If I pull from the floor it's on leg day. However, I hate training squats and deads on the same day so I split legs into quad and hip dominant days so I don't have to worry about that.

Sumo deadlift is where you stand in front of the straight bar with your feet spread apart, out near the plates. You bend at the knees and the hips. Grab just to the out side of the smooth part on the bar. Head up and back arched(not rounded). Stand up until your knees and hips are locked out.

Stiff legged deadlift is where you grab the bar(just outside of the smooth part) while your legs are slightly bent(and locked in this position). Stand up with the bar.

Voted both just cause the first time I did them I noted equal soreness in each area. My lower back felt like I just did a whole bunch of hyperextensions.

Voted both, I do stiff legged D's on leg day, realy work glutes and hams, then on back day normal full D's and rack pulls. Heavy on back day, lighter on leg day, one days rest between them, with back first in the week.

Voted both. After a month of deadlifts once a week, I almost doubled the weight on the hamstring curl machine. Same with the lower back machine.

EDIT: wholy double post, I should read more
