Deadlift/Squat same day
-

Hey ppl. I gym Mon, Wed and Fri. I do 3 by 6 Squats followed by 1 by 6 deadlift. My back is usually tired after squats even before i start the deadlift. Two queries. 1. Could squating b4 Deadlifting 3 days a week affecting my deadlift gains? 2. Could deadlifting 3 days a week be affecting my squating gains? Note i ask COULD IT, not IS IT. My squat has risen 5kg per week for the last few weeks. My deadift rose 5 kg per week for a few weeks b4 last week wen after my squats my back cudnt stabilise me standing up, let alone squat. So i'm thinkin of Deadlifting once per week instead? I'm still a beginner. My routine is: 3 by 6 Squats 1 by 6 Deadlift 3 by 6 Bench 3 sets Pullups *for now, bench and pullups replaced by rotator cuff rehabilitation
After a few months: Weight: 177lbs 6 reps Deadlift: 300lbs Squat: 240lbs Bench: on hold. Rotator cuff injury

it could indeed. maybe re-jigging your current regime could help, simply by shifting the deadlifts behind the benchpress.

yes sometimes i do. that routine isnt in a "fixed" order. just squats i always do first. thanks for the quick reply :) and jaysus, your deadlift and squat are higher in kilos than mine are in pounds. You are what you eat, so i guess your eating, stones, bricks and concrete?

When I squat and deadlift on the same day (I don't deadlift anymore due to poor rehabilitation of my left hand) I used to do this. Workout A - Push Flat Bench Press Incline Bench Dips Workout B - Pull and Legs Squat Row Pullup Deadlift I would always lower the volume of the deadlift so I could be reaping the benefits of deadlifts but not necessarily overreaching or causing my deadlift to plateau quicker, I reduced the volume to allow me to increase the intensity more frequently. I did 1 X 5 on deadlifts on the days I did deadlifts and squats and when I was doing conventional push/pull set ups I did squats 3 X 5 and deadlifts 3 X 5.

interesting. while im a still a beginner tho, wud u not recommend squatting more? my squat is goin up 5-10 llbs every workout since i started squatting 2 weeks ago. Are u simply telling me about ur experience, or are u recommending that i do the above workouts? as for the immediate future, i cant do a push pull routine as i can only do lower body exercises due to a shoulder injury.

No- Just telling you my experience. Beginners make constant progress usually regardless, which is why I recommend push/pull splits to them that involve overhead pressing and benches on the same day, for an intermediate lifter I wouldn't recommend it, but beginners, I would. As far as squats as deadlifts go, they can both be done on the same day but I would recommend lower the deadlift volume to 1 X 5 if you do them on the same day.

i have something wrong with my rotator cuff, and very weak stabilisers which i strained. For full details on what and how, check my thread about the smith machine. no it doesnt actually hurt. im not allowed do any exercise during which my shoulder clicks or pops. THis doesnt happen when i deadlift, so i'm just squatting and deadlifting, plus my rehab exercises, stabiliser exercises, and the electro shock therapy.

I dont think its a problem. Ill go without deadlifting at all for three weeks and just squat and my deadlift still goes up when I get back to it. They use alot of the same muscles.
working on explosive phase vertical: 35 weight: 206 Big 3: 300/440/515 Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.

Yeah- As a lot of others have mentioned, if you're used to leg pressing and not used to squatting, your stabilizers and muscle groups not worked in the leg press will probably not be able to handle a big load, so go light. Leg presses work the quads in a single plane of motion which is an unnatural movement pattern. Squats work the sagital plane, so it's a different story. Start out with light weight, like 135 and get used to driving with your hips.

What RS said. You could also on one of your days start with deadlift and do the squat after or not at all to be able to put more effort into deadlift. I don't think you really need to deadlift everyday either especially if you have good form on your squats. If you can do both and feel good by your next workout then do it imo, either way I think you will be fine.
