I can't deadlift due to a hand injury but have found a good replacement in power cleans and stiff-leg deadlifts.

Yeah I usually use a belt when I'm going heavy, this last deadlift session I put my belt on when I got up to 405.

It's an injury, there's nothing I can do about that.

How do you power clean and SLDL but not DL?  Is it just because the extra weight of a deadlift hurts?

Re:Deadlift - Tuesday, October 27, 2009 5:10 PM ( #18 )
I usually go higher rep with stiff-leg deadlift (3 x 10 or 3 x 12) in relation to deadlift which is naturally heavier and with lower volume (3 x 5 or 3 x 3), it's mainly in the higher weight that hurts. It even hurts when I do chin-ups on something like a dip/pullup station against a hard surface. 315 x 3 x 5 was the highest that I had gotten before I replaced them with power cleans.

The cleans/stiff-leg are used with a lower resistance so it really doesn't aggravate it as much. The deadlift only bothers me when I start getting around the 300's range, there's no way I could pull 4 plates though without hooks or something.

My injury is I had a ganglion cyst removed from my left hand and it has never recuperated. There are even signs of it returning that get worse and worse everyday.
