DESTROYED LOWER BACK - Saturday, May 06, 2006 1:57 PM
Only experience (it happened to you) or doctor/rehab (you certified) responces allowed.

They say in order to overcome something, you have to overcome it with something more painfull than it itself.  I think working abs fit that profile.

For that I am now doing light-heavy painfull ab crunches for lower and upper abs.

Does this sound right.

By the way, I messed up my loeer back doing squats, heavy squats allowing the weight to tell me what to do.  Which was excessive forward lean.

Any advive guys or am I on the right road?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks  :D

Definitely not true. Pain is not necessary for getting great results- I've been working out for years, and used to stick to the whole "No pain, no gain" axiom. Since learning what building muscle really entails, my workouts aren't painful, and I feel no pain the next day- OR the day after that, or ever. And I'm getting better results than ever, these past few years. Here's what I do for abs, for example-
3 sets of cable crunches, 6-8 reps
3 sets of weighted decline crunches, 6-8 reps
3 sets of hanging leg raises, 6-8 reps
Add to that the workout that your abs get when doing heavy squats and deadlifts, and you should be set- If that type of routine gives you pain, you're probably trying to use too much weight. I do that routine once a week.

As far as your lower back goes- So you're out of commission for a while? When did this happen? Did you go to a doc, or what? If it's a serious injury, you'll have to lay off everything for a while- Abs, arms, the whole deal. Let your body recover.

It happened 3 months ago and it really healed well.  I was able to front squat 225lbs for 2 reps and back squat ATG 275lbs for 1 rep fighting to keep perfect form.

But I never want that to happen again , and Its now about 65% healed, and I want that 100+% back.  WHile my back was OOC, I did hacks and worked up to 410 for reps.  It felt greats.

So you said:
3 sets of cable crunches, 6-8 reps
3 sets of weighted decline crunches, 6-8 reps
3 sets of hanging leg raises, 6-8 reps
