Should flat dumbell presses be incorporated into training? As in replacing my flat bench with dumbells one of my workout days of the week. Are there any advantages to this beside equalling out my left/right side? Generally with dumbell press I handle alot less weight and so is that a bad thing for increasing my flat bench weight?

Using dumbbells is fine in strength training. As far as helping increase your bench, I'm not so sure. It would be a good addition for athletes as it includes more stablizer muscles.

If you want to increase your bench, you must bench(with the barbell)! The key to increasing it is the weight, set and rep scheme used. You need to start at the right % of 1 rm, use the right amount of sets and the right amount of reps.

Put that together and your bench will go up. Even if you don't do tricep pushdowns, pec deck and all that other junk.

Sorry, tricep pushdowns are not junk.
