DBB challenge #3
-
Monday, August 24, 2009 6:31 PM
( #1 )
Ok this week. We will be focusing on shoulders. And an endurance shoulder press oriented challenge. It will be reverse drop sets sort of thing. You will start with the standard 45 olympic bar. You are going to perform 15 reps. you will rack/drop the weight and immediately add 5 lb's to each side. 10 pounds total. after adding the weight immediately pick the weight back up and perform 14 reps. rack, put on another 5 lb's to each side and perform 13 reps. rack, another 10 pounds total 12 reps rack, another 10 pounds total 11 reps. etc... You get the idea. The goal is to finish or get as close to 1 rep as possible. Without rest. You will get 1 point for each set you do for a total of 15 points. *************OPTIONAL************** If you get to the 1 rep set and find that you can keep going WITHOUT REST, same tempo. Then keep going for as long as you can. You will receive one additional point for each 1 rep set after 15. simply add 10 pounds like normal but stay at one rep. ****RULES**** No belts (lets work those cores!) No straps/hooks/lipstick chalk is fine Must be done with OH press form. No sitting and no smith machines (cheaters) No push pressing Good luck everyone, looking forward to seeing everyones scores!

So, we should end up with 185 x 1 for all 15 points? That or I did my math wrong. I think 185 is my current 1RM OH press.

yes u should end at 185 for 1 rep... But if I assume correctly, getting to that 185x1 should be amazingly difficult given the no rest reverse drop sets. My 1rm is 190, but im a little skeptical about getting to 185 with that kind of intensity.

Okay, I'll put my results in first and be the lead out man, only to be overtaken by all others. :( I actually did better than I expected. Got through the 3rd set just fine. Two thirds of the way through the 4th set, the legs, I'll be honest, started to do their thang! But I did all the reps on the 4th set. I didn't start a 5th set because I knew there was no F'in way. So since I guess I can't score a 3.6, it'll have to be a 3 for me. :)

This one definately benefits a bigger lifter. I might consider it since my headache is pretty much gone. But are your requiring people to touch the weight to their chest or top of shoulders each time? Cause most people I see doing overhead presses do partials.

Tomorrow is my OH press day. Normally with dumb bells. But, if I can bow out from doing them (have partners) and have time (before work), I'll give this a whirl.

Yea this one isn't exactly geared towards being bodyweight friendly as in the big guys are the ones that should own this. Oh well, I unfortunately am not going to be doing them anyway. I'll just be happy when i can OH press my own bodyweight. I actually might not be too far away from that at the moment; maybe 10-15 pounds off.

I got 11 points. I might have been able to get more, but I was losing form. This was way harder than I expected.

I will try to do this tomorrow or the next day. I've been doing a lot of construction work and working my old job the past two weeks it has been kicking my butt.

oh... yeah now for the big numbers.... 1.7857142..... So 1 I was really dissappointed... I got to 11 on the 2nd tier... and I just couldn't get it past the sticking point... I wanted to push it... to get the last 3... but that would have been a lie...partials if it wasn't all the way to chest... could have made it as well... But i was strict, and I sucked!

Im very disappointed with myself... In my defense I did these after my 20rep squats :P haha, anyway I got to 135x6 and completed it...but barely...my shoulders were jello, there was no way I could complete anymore so I got a total of 10 points. Looks like Wetdawg is winning this one for mens bracket and Hardway is winning the womens bracket!
