DBB Challenge Aug 17-22 - Sunday, August 16, 2009 6:58 PM ( #1 )
Going with the theme of doing multiple exercises/things to expose/work on weaknesses.

This weeks challenge will again revolve around the iron, but with a twist. We will be working with Barbell rows and Flat bench press, two opposite movements back to back.

Flat bench: Goal is to get as many reps at 50% of your body weight as you can in one set.

after that you have no more then 3 minutes to rest/begin the next exercise.

BB Rows: Goal is to get as many reps at 50% of your body weight as you can in one set.

-----------*****OPTIONAL*****-----------

After completing the above. Taking no more then 5 minutes to rest restart the challenge at 100% Body weight.

* No straps
* No belt
* If you get a spotter to spot you on bench they cannot touch the bar during a rep or it doesnt count.
* No lift offs, get the bar off your damn self
* Rows can be done with any grip
* There is no time limit so while you want to complete them fast, try to keep good form

For every rep you do you get one point. At the end add up your bench and row totals for your score.

For those that chose the optional challenge, you will be in the 50% by default and in a seperate 100% category...so there is a chance for someone to win both!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

I'll try to do the 50% challenge.  Question though:  For BB rows, what's okay form and complete rep?: 45 degree trunk or horizontal?, bar must touch belly/chest?

Depending on how hard rowing 150 is I will do this, I haven't done rows in a while though, so we'll see.

I'll skip this challenge, cannot add this one in my workout...50% is not enough.

Edit : I'll think about it and might do it afterall

P*ssy.

HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! Just kidding, Nic

PSHHHH..> Even I'm gonna do this one.  Let's see, what's half of 180 lbs?...  two into 18 is 9, drop the zero... two into zero is... aw maaaaaan!  I gotta start over!

May I also assume that we're talking half your body weight with the bar (i.e. not just plates)?  I'm going with that assumption, since the last time I put it to a poll, better than three quarters of you said you include 45 lbs for the bar in your numbers.

Of course, you'll all disqualify me right out the gate for using my good friend, Lord Smythe

Read the optional challenge to add on to this one afterwards for stronger individuals.

The point of the 50% again is to include a wide range of members. Stronger members can then complete the optional challenge and be in a category all of their own.

I got to use dumbbells.... well at 50% maybe not... we'll we shall see... I would need some on to take the bar when I'm done...

What was the bodybuilding stereotype you were trying to debunk again?  ;)

You never answered my Q about what Crom's anvil is?  I tried CityDick and there are many possibilities.  Inquiring minds...

JMBS, one of these days, you're going to stand before Crom, and he will ask you the riddle of steel.  If you don't know the answer, he will cast you out of Valhalla.

If you don't know what Crom's Anvil is, there is a good chance you don't know the riddle of steel either.  Get with the program and do your homework, or I'm gonna be the only bronzed muscle god in Valhalla at this rate.  And you're supposed to be a teacher!

If it helps, the only actual reference I've seen to Crom's Anvil is on the soundtrack to the first Conan film.

Now hang on.  If you're deloading at the bottom of the rep, you'd have to be pretty well bent over (unless you have a rowing station).  That sounds more like a deadlift to me.

I know I put up that Q for general info... as I I am sure that is Nm0ney's row style as well.

Veg... you perpendicular to the floor... your torso never rises... It is most DEFINITELY a row.

I'd say as long as your range of motion is complete, you don't need to drop the bar and be 90 degree like the video...

My initial thought, knowing Veg and his propensity for phonetically spelling sinful expletives, was that Crom stood for ChRist O (all) Mighty, but it didn't check out in urbandictionary.com.  You know the weights he's lifting are the anvil, and it's so hard to lift he's saying or thinking "Christ Almighty!" or Crom!  And there you have Crom's Anvil.  But apparently I way overthought the whole thing.

Is it some kind of online gaming community.  Is it today's D&D?  Ooh, ooh, Mr. Kotter, Mr. Kotter!  I'm getting a headache.  Where's the Tylenol.  :(

The only thing with pendlays is you can let the bar sit for as long as you want until the next pull. With this challenge I would assume you can keep going as long as you can hold onto the bar - in the bench or row - otherwise it's hard to judge when you're going to slow. Of course these challenges aren't really a science, just something to mix it up and challenge yourself.

Body Weight : 235. Comments: Damn I'm fat.

Bench: 115 Pounds - 22 reps.
Comments: I'm disappointed with myself. My chest is fried now.

Rows: 115 Pounds- 27 reps. Comments: They were eaiser. Due to my large gut I had less distance to pull :P. It was hard because I was so tired from the bench.
