DB Handbook - Saturday, February 14, 2004 12:12 PM ( #1 )
I've been thinking that I need to create an e-book and go thru the forum taking posts and questions and making a framework in which a new member who comes to DB to ask..

How do I get big?

Can get some kind of answers.

Then if they have more, they post. Sort of a guidebook to bodybuilding. Nothing necessarily scientific. But rather a good read this first kinda thing.

I'd need to send out a broadcast letting everybody know their posts may be used (screen names) and if they didn't want that, I need to know in advance. I'm not planning on charging for it.

I'd like to have it for mods or anybody really to go..

Q: What is NO2? Does it work? My friend takes it and I want to know if I should.

A: Have you seen the DB e-book? I think it's question 47 under Supplements.

After they read it.. they can come back a little more informed.

Not trying to get rid of newbies.. hell no! Just trying to help organize stuff and to get some of the really good posts out into the open.

I think it's a great idea! It will get the newbies the help they need, as well as maybe refresh the veterans on some stuff.

Well, a few items that should definitely be in there:

  • Bulking/Cutting

    • Bulking diet
    • Cutting diet
    • Bulking routine
    • Cutting routine
    • Why lifting heavy is good for both bulking and cutting, and how nutrition and cardio affect the bulking/cutting process

  • Creatine

    • Does it work?
    • What's the difference between creatine monohydrate and products like V12 and Swole?
    • Do I need to cycle it?
    • Is Cell-Tech worth it? How can I make cell-tech?
    • How much should I take? Do I need to do a loading stage?

  • Protein

    • What is the difference between Whey, Casein, Soy, Egg, etc. protein?
    • Will soy protein give me man tits?
    • How much protein should I take?

  • Nutrition

    • What are good sources of protein? Carbs? Fats?
    • Shouldn't I be avoiding all fats?
    • What good are fish oil and flax oil?
    • What about Atkins?
    • What's this cyclic ketogenic diet thingee?
    • How often should I be eating?
    • How much water should I be drinking?

  • Training programs

    • What is Max-OT?
    • What is German volume training?
    • Why every body part should be worked.
    • What is a good program for a beginner?
    • What are some good dumbbell exercises?
    • What is HIT?
    • What is HIIT?
    • Should I really take a break every now and again?
    • How often should I work out a body part?

  • Exercises

    • What is the right way to do squats? Straight Leg Deadlifts? Inclined Bench? Some other exercise?
    • Should I use straps for deadlifts? Shrugs?
    • What are good ab exercises?
    • What are some good body weight only exercises I can do when I'm traveling?

  • Women's weighlifting

    • Won't weightlifting make me bulky?
And here's one of my favorite answers to that question, again, from stumptuous.com (with a slight edit):

FOR THE LAST F***ING TIME, YOU CANNOT GET TOO BIG FROM LIFTING WEIGHTS! A NON-DRUG-USING MALE TRAINEE WOULD HAPPILY CRAWL ON HIS LIPS THROUGH A FIELD OF LEECHES TO ADD FIFTEEN CRUMMY LITTLE POUNDS OF MUSCLE A YEAR! DO YOU THINK THAT YOU ARE SOMEHOW SO SPECIAL THAT YOU WILL DEFY THE LAWS OF PHYSIOLOGY AND SUDDENLY BECOME HUGE ONE DAY? WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GODDAMNED TESTOSTERONE, HONEY! WHAT'S THAT? YOU CAN'T? OH, PERHAPS THAT IS BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU BULK UP???? RAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH

    • Can I work out when pregnant?
    • Don't I just want to tone?
    • Something else I can't think of, because I'm not a woman?

Well, that's all I can think of now...

Man this thing is getting larger.. I just noticed this thread because I've been busy adding in stuff.

Holy cow man.. I think this will be a pretty good reference book. I'm trying to keep it to a reasonable length. I don't want to make a DB Bodybuilding Encyclopedia.

What great suggestions. Those are totally valid. Thanks bro!

SlySi.. what if this compilation was free?

Free is even better!

I just get a headache when I goto a book store and I see literaly hundreds of books on each of the above topic. But a narrowed down more simpler book is what I would need.

I just meant if I had to, I would pay.

Anxiously waiting for the book now.

Hey, It's catchy.

The DB Guide sounds cool, straight to the point. It gets my vote.

sounds good, but I would add something extra to it...

The DB Guide to Bodybuilding

or

The DB Guide to the Bodybuilding Lifestyle

or

The DB Guide to Fitness

My only thinking is that if you just name it The DB Guide, people might say -- "The DB Guide to what?"

If not, then how about Discuss Bodybuilding Discusses Bodybuilding?

I should have put the full title and description:

The DB Guide!!!

A Question and Answer leader to What’s Important to You When it Comes to Fitness and Bodybuilding!

You guys have some good suggestions. I guess what I was thinking is that that book by Tom was "Big Fat Lies"

I'm trying to find a short phrase that describes what this e-book is. A ton of frequently asked questions that other people on other forums seem to think about as well. And if everybody who came to DB first had this and read it, a lot of their questions might be answered and they could get down to specifics.

*Monkey... I think school finally caught up with him*-*Along with Chazz*

Great ideas.. I'm almost done with my rough draft. Should finish today.. maybe add 2 more questions. The cool thing is.. I'll keep this updated and put a link in the book. So where ever it goes to, the person could also click on the link on the title page and get the latest update.

And I'm considering this one as well. Since I may have the book off Freedomfly.. as this is a forum and my other site is geared towards commerce and such.

I like the freedomfly cover! I would say use that one. Maybe put the DB.com logo someplace on the side or something. Just because DB.com is your main source of info, right?

The covers look awaesome. The title makes sense, but it does anything but roll off the tongue. The main title should be smaller, JMO. In any event I will read it cover to cover.
