I used to wrestle and now do powerlifting so I've cut weight like this before. It's all water weight, and sometimes when you have no water left there is senna(herbal laxative).
I Just cut until I'm 2-3 lbs away then the rest of the weight will float off if i'm careful about eating and drinking the rest of the day. When I cut it usually consists of running with all of my swetpants and sweaters on with parachute pants and a windbreaker on top. I lift at 165 and usually weigh in at 162-163, but during the competition I weight around 170.The most I've dropped is 15 lbs in 1 day. But I have friends that have dropped 30 or more in 2 days.
wow they must lose so much muscle.
doesnt that hurt your lifts when you powerlift though? i would think it would be more beneficial to stay in your weight class and build strength there
It's better to train in a weight class and then cut 1-2 weight classes down. You gain a good bit of it back by the time you're in the ring as it's water weight and you can get in plenty of water and 2-3 meals between weigh in and fight depending on when they are.
One of the guys I train with (who's really good) trains at 177-182 and then cuts to 155 to fight. It's almost unfair how badly he beats on these guys who train at 160-165 and cut to 155.
I personally train at 125 but can cut down to the lowest class -105- for females for weigh in. By the time I step in the ring I'd be 118 at least.
