Cutting Phase - Monday, May 10, 2004 7:56 AM
I have been bulking up since January taking N Large in addition to my meals and gained decent weight. My question is how long of a cutting phase can I go on to see great results? Is 2 weeks long enough or do I need 4 weeks? Suggestions.

2 weeks is not enough. 4 weeks is not enough. Depending on how much fat & muscle you put on, and how well your body loses fat, we cannot tell you how long it will take. You just have to keep cutting until you see the results, and are happy with them. Your looking at months though, not weeks.

If you are serious about nutrition and training, you can make some significant fat loss (cutting) in about 30 days or 12 weeks.

Losing 6-7% body fat in that time frame is not unheard of.

But this statement is made assuming the fact that you have your nutrition 97% on target, and you are training correctly.

Taking a pill, doing a little cardio, you are looking at months.

But in 30 days with a solid plan (includes eating and training) I do believe you can make some changes.

Try three months at least. I am on week 11 of a 15-week cutting cycle. I'm dropping about a pound a week (though it's slowed down the last few weeks), and after about 8-10 lbs I really started to see a big difference.

Interesting points. Well, I am genetically very lean (always only about 155lbs at 5'10"). It's just that since on the N Large I have a bloated effect in my stomache and miss my six pack appearance. I was thinking once I stop taking the N Large and cut some more calories out, while maintaining protein that I can show my stomache within 4 weeks time.

How long have you been bulking? Switching between cutting and bluking too fast is a common mistake. I am doing a general rule of tumb of 6 months bluking, then 3 months cutting, then back again.

I have been bulking since January and will stop at the end of June.

The reason I ask about a 4week time frame is because I will be going on my honeymoon at the end of July...therefor I want to loook good.

Well if you are trying to look your best for a specific date, then you need to start cutting sooner. Like, RIGHT NOW. Or, maybe your new bride will love you no matter what phase your bodybuilding is in?

You are right but I will feel better knowing I look my best. If I were take a prohormone during June then go into a cutting cycle for July maybe that would work good as most prohormones reduce bf% so in effect it would be a 2 month cutting phase eventhough the first four weeks are bulking...

as most prohormones reduce bf%

Ummmmmmm......my personal opinion is that most prohormone claims are bull****. They certainly aren't going to DOUBLE your fat loss in a cutting phase. But I think you're missing the point, sweating over insignifigant details. Your wife will be swept up in other thoughts besides if you have 7% or 14% bodyfat....

You are right, she won't care about that.

I guess I was just thinking too much of being on the beach all ripped up.

That makes perfect sense if you're trying to get some attention from the girls on the beach, but in the case of your honeymoon you're probably better off just focusing on ONE girl!
