Cut, not big. Help. - 7/12/2004 2:39:53 PM

I was just wondering if I could get some advice from some people. I got a gym membership abour 10-14 days ago. I've been taking GNC's and GNC's Megamen multivitamin. I'm trying to get more toned and cut for college in the fall. I understand the myth between high reps at low weight. I want my arms and chest to look good. Should I lift and do cardio? Only cardio? Only lift? Currently I start my workouts with 1) Overhead DB press 2) Curls w/ bar [or DB's] 3) Pulldowns (triceps) 4) Chest press w/ DB's 5) Forearms 6) Leg warm-ups: low weight w/ leg curls and sqauts 7) 45min - 1 hour on elliptical 8) Steam and shower. Any suggestions will be helpful.

Diet is a huge part when it comes to cutting. Infact I would say the most important part.

Read up on bodybuilders diets and post what you plan on eating to cut in the nutrition section. Also it seems as if your gym workouts could do with some work.

I suggest you read the max-ot pdf
MAX-OT

You probably shouldn't follow the program until you have more experience wieght lifting, but the general ideas and the explanation of exercises and many other important factors for bodybuilding should help you to understand more about wieghtlifting.

Lifting and doing cardio is the best way to keep muscle and lose fat. Many people on these forums don't seem to like long cardio, but I personally think that if you wait until your body is fully replenished (maybe 8 hours) it's fine. You could try doing guerilla cardio if you want, seems to be popular around here.

Also if you don't have muscle to show off, cutting is just gonna make you look skinny. Consider bulking before your cut to make sure there is something to show off.

Okay, let me try this one more time-
DIET AND CARDIO WILL GET YOU CUT. YOU SHOULD BUILD MUSCLE FIRST WITH A BULKING PHASE.
Now, on to your workout- Is this all you do? It's nowhere near enough. You need to give each body part more attention than just one exercise each- Try doing three sets of three different exercises for each muscle group- For example, take biceps- You could do standing barbell curls, alternating dumbell curls and hammer curls. Of course, you should also do only one or two muscle groups per day. Read that Max OT document that you were provided a link to by DjjD- It's a long read, but it'll give you a much better understanding of how to work out- Even if you don't want to get huge, you'll learn a lot.

Cardio is a definite way to get cut. I've been playing soccer the past 7 years and right now my bodyfat % is super low, and even if I have friends who are maybe 20-30 lbs heavier than me, I lift the same weight or more. Best part of being cut is the six-pack that shows up in 3 weeks :D.

Lift weight about 3 or 4 days a week. Do cardio on the days in between. You'll be ready to impress the college girls in no time ;)

Best way to get cut, dont use GNC products. you could drink a 5 lb tub of lard and get more cut than on any supplement from GNC, I shouldnt even capitalize their damn name, well too late to go back and change that now, I'd have to like use the mouse and click and delete and re-write stuff, naaa, too much bro, new rule, from now on no one capitalizes gnc unles they are refering to the competition "GNC show of strength", thats the only time its allowed, all those who oppose will be forced to use a gnc product.
