I don't do either.  I go rope crunches and leg lifts with my knees slightly bent and focusing the tension on my lower abs instead of my hip flexors.  Personally, crunches and sit-ups never did anything for me, and when I have seen people that said they worked, they were doing a thousand a day, but thats just me.  Also, many bodybuilders advocate the use rope crunches in your workout.  The following sites would have the exercises:

Crunches focus more on the abs.  Situps focus more on the hip flexors.  Your legs take over when you do full situps.  I also like hanging leg raises.  Done correctly, you can get a good burn.

Crunches are only for upper abs nothing else. I find that doing sit ups with legs straight is much more effective, yes its true you can do a lot of them when you're use to them, but try putting weight on your chest and you'll see the difference and feel the burn. I also do the leg raises just like you guys and I like them too, they are the best for lower abs. I never tried the rope crunches but for some reason its execution tells me its for upper abs also, not sure thou.

I like leg raises with light weights between your feet, leg raises where your partner pushes your legs down, weighted crunches and hanging leg raises.

When done with good form crunches can also target the the lower section of the abs.  I wouldn't recomend using weighted sit ups if your trying to avoid that "blocky look", instead try lowering the rest time between sets or try super sets. Remember good form is everything.
