Crossfit type challeges for DBB.com - Saturday, August 01, 2009 9:59 PM ( #1 )
I want to get a gauge on how many of you guys would be into doing things like this. I have this idea...

To have a DBB.com crossfit type of challenge every single week. Starts monday, video's or pictures (if applicable) saturday at midnight, and sunday we will see who took home the gold. Video's might be hard for everyone to accomplish so we may just have to go off word of mouth but videos would be encouraged for visual proof.

I was just thinking, maybe its a little crazy...but I think it would be pretty fun and think a lot of members could have fun and get in better shape while doing it.

It doesnt all have to be weights, I was imagining cardio events as well and cardio + weights.

Who can run 3 miles the fastest...

Who can run one mile and bench press their own body weight at least 5 times in under 7 minutes. (more reps would obviously win)

Who can deadlift 150% of their weight the most times in 5 minutes.

Who can squat 125% of their weight the most times in 5 minutes.

Who can do 150 push ups + 25 pull ups the fastest

...you guys get the idea...

I still think this site could you a regular contest type of thing that everyone could get into, since the weight club thing kind of fizzled out due to saftey/legal reasons...maybe we could try this.

anyway, cast your vote...let me hear your ideas and comments!

sounds interesting; my YMCA posts stuff like this although in general not many people do them or the ones that do lie about what they did. I remember though they had a seated calf raise competition and the guy who won did his own bodyweight over 300 times. I'd like to see something like this go through as it might make the forum more active. Other forums out there (such as ones missing the word discuss in it) just have to much trash and not enough actual information.

Obviously we would have a mens/womens section.

and I used BW%'s in some of those examples, as to not exclude people in different weight classes. That it can be a pound for pound sort of challenges.

Thanks for voting Jane, now everyone else vote!...or else >:)

Its not a matter of how much you can lift in pounds.

it would be a % of your body weight to make it fair for everyone and therefore be sort of a pound for pound strength/conditioning.

For example I may be able to deadlift over 435, but what if I can only get out say 35 reps @ 150% of my body weight in under 5 mins...

now lets say your max is 375 (I have no idea, just picking a number) you also weigh less then I do, but lets factor in other things like stamina and say you can pump out 37 reps @ 150% of your body weight.

I mean its still a little strength oriented, and I understand what your trying to say, but most of the stuff I would plan on doing would be closest to a level playing field you could get.

I would really like to see a lot of competition and participation. changing it week to week means changing strengths/weaknesses for everyone. So I dont foresee one person dominating everything, but then again thats why I made a poll to get opinions.

I was thinking I may do this regardless of mass participation, and just issue challenges to beat my records.

It's a great idea and a good competition, I wish I could take part in it but I'm so weak right now it's ridiculous. I haven't been lifting, I fall under every excuse in Veg's new category

I do believe very strongly in muscle memory though and plan to get serious with lifting again on Monday, so if I gain most of my strength gains back before then I should be good to go with the competition.

Nice idea. I am needing more cardio conditioning right now.

I think competition would higher if there were a small number of tasks for people to work towards. You'll have to decide on that list.

I've got a killer. Quickest time to complete 20x 55% bw overhead squats, 1000 m row sprint, 10x each hand 10 kg turkish get-ups.

Well heres what im going to do.

Im going to think of a challenge today, I will post it up later tonight probably early monday morning (when I get off work).

People will have all week to attempt and post their results. You can just post results or pics/videos if you can are encouraged.

I will have a mens/womens division so hopefully jane/hardway will compete :P As for the mens, everyone will be encouraged to try! again it wont be a test of just pure strength, I will do %'s of body weight.

Entry's will need to be in by satuday 12pm and next sunday we will declare the champ of the week. And if people enjoy it we will keep it going.

:)

Don't do the 3 mile run one though, that would suck haha. But I think this is a cool idea. Also we could have a thing that you put under your name (don't know what its called but for example in the place it says "champion" or whatever, something that could say like "Crossfit champ of the week:womens/mens" or something.

This sounds like a lot of fun, and I could probably fit it into my current routine on an off day or make it work so it won't hurt my current regimine.  Doesn't hurt to expand and try something new either, still been working on developing my gym and write things down, crossfit was soemthing I was hoping to include either classes or gym challenges and so forth, so this would be very similar and help prepare me to make it work.

Ok here it is, I wanted to keep it a little tough and relatively simple this first time.

challenge #1

Part one: Run 1 mile as fast as possible.
Part two: Time how long it takes you to do 200 sit ups and 100 push ups

Combine both times and submit it by Saturday at 12pm.

Rules: Situps must be done the old fashion way, laying on the floor. Push ups are standard push ups, nothing special. These two parts do not need to be done at the same time or back to back. So you can do part one and part two on separate days. The sit ups and pushups need to be done all at once though, in any order you desire.

You only need to post one combined time, or you can post both and a combined also, however its not necessary.

Again, Im being a little conservative for this first one. Not too hard, but not too easy. Keeping it relatively simple as I said.

Good luck!

I should try this.  I wanna get 5:30 or better because thats what I did in jr high and if I could do it now with that much more weight itd be good.

Last time I did it though I couldnt break 6 minutes.  I was smoking cigarettes though...This should be fun.

RS,
How much do you run?  How much did you weigh in Jr. High?  If you're heavier that's a lot of pounding on the joints, knees in particular.  Realize you're young but all those miles over the years with a heavy body take their toll.

Jane

running on treadmill okay?

Jane,
If your question is posed to me, the answer, for me, is a resounding No!
Perhaps the issue is I didn't ramp up slow enough.  I started right off with 20 minutes of HIIT on the treadmill.  Felt pretty good after that 1st day.  By the 3rd session of running HIIT my knees were hurtin' pretty bad.  Then I switched to bike for the HIIT, but damage already done.  This weekend was brutal.  Especially on my left knee, where the tibia comes into the femur on the medial side (where knees touch) it's even tender to the touch.  That's where the MCL (medial collateral ligament) is.  Don't know if that's the problem or what.  All I know is I'm laying low, on ibuprofen, and icing every so often.  All that seems to help.  Hope I can get back to the gym soon!  :(  My knees were not made for running, I'm convinced of it.  This old fart used up his running quota years ago.
