What kind of machine does a bench press? Do you have a picture or a link?

I was just curious because I bench 65-70 for 5 reps but that's with a free BB.

It wasn't an actual workout, but I moved back into my dorm today and I live on the 4th floor.

January 15, 2007
Lifting 42 minutes
Cardio 30 minutes
Stretching 30 minutes

Smith Bench Press - 65-9-9-9
DB Flyes - 15-9-9
Rear Lat. Pulldown - 50-9-9-9
DB Front Raise - 5-9-9-9
DB Lateral Raise - 5-9-9-9
Assisted Dips - 40-9-9-9
BB Curls - 30-9-9-9
DB Concentration Curls 20-9-9
BB Wrist Curls 30-9-9-9

Track practice started today but I couldn't participate. I got a physical done and am waiting on blood work results, which should be back tomorrow. They are seeing if I am anemic.

I did watch track practice and the only thing I am worried about is the warm up and cool down: jogging a half mile. I sprint, I don't jog. I don't know if I can do it with my back injury but I guess we'll see tomorrow, if I get medically cleared.

Hey Sophie, do you have shoes that have been fitted to you by a shoe store that specializes in running?  We have Fleet Feet here in Chicago, and they are fantastic.  I just offer it as a possibility to helping diminish any stress on your back from running.  I went to Fleet Feet because I have an ankle problem which caused severe pain and limited running, but after being properly fitted (and cushioned!), the pain went away and I didn't have to wear the stupid orthotics anymore.

Cheers!

It's not the stress on my back per se. My back was fractured when I was 10 and the cartilage has hardened making any prolonged energy expenditure difficult, painful, and in some cases impossible.

My cartilage doesn't allow my ribs to exand enough to get enough oxygen past a certain point so I get severe pain in my ribs when running for any amount of distance. I can bike just fine but that's the only exercise I have found I can do for long periods of time. Even dance and baton the breaks during practice were welcomed and many.

Lifting 37 minutes
Stretching 30 minutes
Cardio (worked on routine) 20 minutes

Deadlift - 90-10-10-10
Calf Raises - 240-15-15-15
Plate Loaded Leg Press 240-15-15-15
Leg Extension - 50-15-15-15
Hamstring Curl - 50-15-15-15
Adductors - 50-15-15-15
Abductors - 50-15-15-15
Side Bends - 10-20-20-20
Vertical Knee Raises - 20-20-20

I don't know if I'm going to run track. There is getting to be too much hoopla about it. The blood results are in and one of the secretaries left a message saying the results were in and nothing to too out of whack.

With that news, I have to go in and talk to the college physician and one of the nurse practitioners tomorrow. I have a feeling it has more to do with my past eating disorder than my blood workup, though I'm sure the blood workup is part of the reason.

I have already missed two practices and will not be able to run in the meet Saturday, OR the one next week. This means I will have missed a quarter of the meets. Maybe it's not worth it. . .

What school do you run track for?

I didn't lift yesterday. I had some pretty bad DOMS. I did get the OK to run track so I went to practice, managed to jog the 800 and was almost done with the first of four acceslerations when I got a stabbing pain in my hip. Went to see one of the trainers. He did all sorts of adduction/abduction tests and told me he didn't really see anything specifically wrong but that I had good strength. He had me ice it so that put me off track practice yet again.

Maybe this just isn't for me. By the time I was done with the 800 I was already super exhausted. I've tried to tell the coaches I can't jog slow, for multiple reasons, and I think they are finally getting it. Today I can warm up usign the exercuse bike, which is much easier on my back and ribs. So I guess we'll see how it goes.

Great going!  Love the journal..........I Have had a hard time getting back into things myself and  debating now if I should try the Kelowna show because I looked at the DVD and actually I think politics affected my placing more than my body.......I was leaner than the winner......with better muscle and a better routine and now that I saw it for myself I am almost certain it was politics and am leary to just do NOV and end up last again simply because of politics......so the Kelowna show has a different body running it even so the pres. is the same which is teh one I think is affecting my ability to move forward, I think she will try to hold me back if she can.
So now I am wondering if I should just diet to April and go do it, yet I dohn't want to bother with the hassel and had already gotten my mind set on Nov giving me time........I guess I could always do Kelowna next year if the NOV show turns out to be against me again.........mind you if I do Kelowna and qualify I have 2 years to do the BCS so I could do it this year or next........decisions, decisions!!!
So all this thinking has stunted me and I have not gotten my mind fully set yet!

Ugh, politics. Well, if you enjoy it, the training, the competiting, go for it and just see it as being for fun, a warmup for another event or something. I'm going into Ms. Fitness with no idea how I will place. I just hope I place higher than the 50 year olds.

No lifting today. I will start again on Saturday. I need to let some of my DOMS go away and baby my hips injury.

I went to the doctor early today and I guess a couple years back I had a ruptured tendon which now causes me pain when I do things, like sprint. I am going to do my best to train myself to do distance. I am not running indoor track but will hopefully be built up to distance by outdoor season.

I spent an hour on a stationary bike today. I went 12.85 miles. Next time I want to hit that 13 miles in an hour mark. That's the goal. So, I will biking for an hour during track practice until my hip injury from yesterday heals, again, at which time I will attempt to start my walk/jog routine. Hopefully when I start that routine I will work up to jogging 45 mins at a time in about a month, I hope.

an hour on the...............wow.  I do 30 mins and 2 mins in I am looking for the door to go far away from the bike......I am very weak on bike.  Could be a solution to help get bigger sweep on my quads, I have one at home, you are motivating me to get on it right now!!!  An hour....wow...

I LOVE biking, though the stationary isn't exactly fun by any means. I'll be spending an hour on the bike 5-6 days a week until my hip heals. Then I won't be on it anymore and will be trying to start jogging.
