Your eating is equally important or actually much more important than your training. If you have seen Linda's journal, you'll understand what we are talking about. But don't take this the wrong way (there's this one guy was doesn't seem to like people's criticism (he knows who he is), so I have stop posting in his journal), all I'm trying to do is help. I had typed a nice answer when my computer crashed.  I will try to get the gist of it again. It is hard to control a diet while eating in the college cafeteria. Their menu isn't exactly tuned to a healthy diet, let alone one for training. While I understand that dieting is very important when it comes to training, it has taken me nearly 20 years (yes, I realize I just turned 20) to finally give myself permission to eat, and i'm still working on that. I was hospitalized in 2005 with anorexia. I was 5'1 and 86 lbs. I'm worried that if I start restricting what and when I can eat, I will relapse, which is something I do not want to do. So while I understand the importance of dieting, I hesitate to put myself in a situation that I think will make my recovery harder, or possibly cause a relapse. I DO appreciate the advice and attempt to follow what I think I am able to without putting myself at greater risk for a relapse.

oh... Do not take it the wrong way at all when we say there were problems with the diet. I totally didn't mean that your eating too much and neither did any of the others.. we were just saying focus more on the fruits and veggies only slightly restrict the fatty meats etc.. But by any means eat eat eat! I did not realize that you were sensitive in that area. I hope you never relapse because the way you look now is 100x better then being all skinny at 86 - 100lbs and all sucked up. I don't want you to get the wrong idea by anything i say. Like i said if anything do like you have planned, keep the diet the same up the cardio etc... Maybe less weight training? It seems like thats what you had in mind and it does not sound like a bad idea.

I DO appreciate the advice and attempt to follow what I think I am able to without putting myself at greater risk for a relapse. same thing here- 1989 and I was 97lbs or so, and it never goes away but I found dieting helps me eat more and eat regularly and better.......and not making me go back to old habits but we are all different so maybe it won't work for you but also you need to bring a cooler of food too, caf food won't always fit. The thing is, if you want to compete and eat how you feel is best, you cannot be upset if you do not place well because unfortunatley you are being judged on it and it is hard to get to that physique unless you do diet right. The next level you are going into will be harder core........ Linda

I really am not in the place where I can afford to buy special food. A friend of the family is paying for the contest and giving me transportation. I live with my great aunt who only makes 10K a year and I currently do not work. Will respond more later. Class....

I am not sure what you are charged or if you are charged for the caf food, but produce is so cheap, tuna and chicken can be affordable but you do have to have the time to shop and prep....... almonds are not too cheap, true......oats are cheap, fruit is not too bad and you don't want that close to contest anyway. Your main diet food is lean meat and produce, dark leafy greens, that is the bulk of the diet really. Protein shakes can be cheap if you find stuff on sale and can be a snack right there. Eggs are good but again that can vary in cost. You can diet right on a small budget but I don't mean to be pushy and you may have other reasons who are not voicing which is private so I don't mean to push but am being honest and trying to help. We all have our personal boundaries of finances and comfort or habit so I don't want to be pushing you beyond those but in this sport you do have to push beyond a bit, its an unreal effort but again if you compete for fun and not placing, then you have nothing to worry about and are fine doing things as you see fit and essentially the bottom line is your health and comfort. I agree definetely. Produce is much cheaper that eating almonds, since they cost more. Sophie, for me personally depending on my day at uni, I pack anywhere from 2 to 3 meals, I put them in a cooler with a ice pack inside. BTW, I was 103lbs back in July, and mind you I'm a guy, 5'8 and I was 19 then. But since then I have gone some distance, which I'm very happy.
