Re:Connelly's Journal - Wednesday, January 28, 2009 7:37 PM ( #121 )
Well, I can't really pinpoint a specific point of size, but one of our rb's, who is insanely good, and going to be starting varsity this year as a junior, with a lot of varsity time this year, squats over 350 I believe, and probably bench's a little over 200 i'm guessing and he's a beast with some great hands. To top it off he's insanely fast, so I would think the best thing to do is to find the best strength and speed you can find without risking too much of either attribute

Haha if I did parallel squats I bet a could get those numbers by the time i'm a sophmorejust sayin, but yah I hear what your sayin, I am not running back speed for even middle school ball right now and i'd say my strength is already pretty good, saying as I still have 5 months till practices start so i'm going to work on speed, I wouldn't really say i'm cutting just more focused on speed, i'll a bit above maintenence so I guess a clean bulk..

Well if you look at it in football terms, when your running the ball speed can only get you so far, but strength can get you oh so farther!

Re:Connelly's Journal - Friday, January 30, 2009 3:26 PM ( #125 )
This was from yesterday:
Squats
barx10
95x5
135x5
145x5
Was going to do 155x5 but my new training partner needed help with form..
OH Press
40x8
60x6
70x6
Bench Press
barx10
95x5
125x3
135x5
135x3<--Well I made the mistake of basing my grip off of my bar so now that i'm at a gym with a different bar I am having trouble finding my grip, made all of the lifts a bit harder, but bench felt the most noticable..well I should find the grip good within next workout or 2.
Deadlifts
135x5
185x5
Gonna do 195x5 but partner needed help again. Well I like my new gym but my partner know's little about weight training, so I will have to help him a bit for the next few weeks, it shouldn't mess me up to much but as you can see I had to cut out a couple sets.I'm swiching the bigger faster stronger program from MWF to TTS and running MWF speed work and agility on Monday and Friday and distance Wednesday. And THS I definitly agree I prefer strength to speed, but as I said a few posts ago I REALLY need to work on speed..

Re:Connelly's Journal - Sunday, February 01, 2009 10:41 AM ( #128 )
The last couple weeks i've been trying to stretch every night before bed, but i forget alot so it's been about 3 times a week..gonna get more strict on that. Also gonna start doing Pylo's on MWS to help bring that 40 time down. Don't know if i'll be able to get to gym today since i'm still on a free trial atm and need to go with a gym member. Probably gonna join like Tuesday. Gonna workout at house today so i'll probably post what I did later today, might go for 145x5 bench.

Why don't you do stretching after your workouts? I actually do some back stretching on the foam roller in the morning for 10minutes, and at night as well everyday, as my back flexbility is quite bad.

Re:Connelly's Journal - Sunday, February 01, 2009 4:25 PM ( #131 )
Ok lifted finally:
Bench
barx10
95x6
135x3
145x5<----Finally, that extra day of rest was all I needed, could've gotten 6-7 reps but no spotter and goal was just 5 anyways.
Squat
barx10
135x5
155x5
Mostly just tryin to get something done, not to much volume, or to much weight other than the 145 bench set.

I guess, i'd been stuck at 145x4 for a few weeks, so it was about time, you might have been looking at my workout 2 workouts ago when I was trying to get used to the different bar at the gym? Thanks though been working pretty hard to get that up.

2x15 box jump
Pylo's really do feel like they can help you get alot quicker. Need to add a bit more volume to it get 2 different exercises and 2-3 sets for each, those 2 sets alone wore me out though. Need to find something a little higher to jump onto next time..might just make it MWF instead of doing em saturday instead of friday..

Re:Connelly's Journal - Saturday, February 14, 2009 6:35 AM ( #145 )
Don't really remember the workout to good from thursday but this was the main part:
Deadlift
135x5
185x3
195x3
205x3
Power cleans
95x3
105x3
115x1..I am bad at getting under the bar..
Also did shrugs and a couple other things..
Yesterday was
2x15 box jumps
Today is bench and squat day i'll post that later. I am working on getting some new plates here is what I have right now:
Bar (45 lb.)
2 2.5's
4 5's
2 10's
2 25's
2 35's
2 45's
Gonna get 2 more 2.5's 2 more 10's 2 more 25's, and should I get 2 more 45's? Actually having 2 plates on the bar will be nice since I am about there on deadlift, I could max 225 for sure DLing right now, and I could probably max 225 or close to it on squat, and bench will be there at some point, plus I figured I could do DB shrugs and having 45's for those would help, any thoughts?

Haha I know, it sucks people always try and start stuff and i'm trying to avoid stuff but somehow I always get involved..WOW DB bench is hard, I figured I would start working out with 55's and work my way up but I can't get the 55's, now i'm going to have to go buy some more 5's..I think I would be able to borrow or have a friend of mines though because he goes to gold's now but still has alot of weights at his house. Kub I remember you doing hack squats, do you think they would be good to do on 1 of my squat days? I'm squatting 2x a week and one can be any variation of squats, the other is supposed to be back squats. I might do some front squatting to, but it is nice to mix stuff up.

Bench
8x25's (dumbbells)<-- Try these as warmups even for barbell bench I might start doing it more feels great
5xbar
6x95
2x135
1x145
1x170
0x175 Wow those clips as heavy as crap I was using, the 170 was probably more like 175 haha but anyways new max is 170, will probably not be to long before I max again honestly.
Squat
10xbar
5x135
5x155
2-3x175<-- Don't remember the number really, focusing on not dropping down, but going down slowly, then rocketing up. Wow my squats are REALLY deep I have just noticed..deeper than they were in my vid a while back.
OH Press
8xbar
6x65
6x75
5x80
Pretty good, wrist and tricep and bicep all feel pretty weak not sure whats up with that.
