rows are a great exercise but I feel like you can work on your explosiveness better with the cleans.  Start light and just do them, you'll come to like them as most people suck at them anyway and it can be pretty impressive once you start flinging around some weight.

IDK haha I just really don't like cleans..i'll figure it out this was yesterday:
Squats
10x95
5x135
5x135
5x135
OH Press
10xbar
8x55
6x65

Push Press
6x85

I hate light squats because it's just as tiring as heavy squatting to me, yet I don't accomplish much.
Goals by end of 2009:
Bench 205
Squat 255 ATG
Squat Clean 185

Bench
10xbar
5x95
5x115
3x135
4x145<---OMG so mad I couldn't get it, it was sooo long before I gave up haha I really wanted to get it...I guess there's always next week..
Squats
10xbar
5x115
5x145
3x165
2x185<--I know what your thinking, but I REALLY screwed up on 2nd rep leaned forward to much and stumbled forward was barely able to recover and get 2nd rep, probably just gonna go for 180 next week instead of putting on 15 lb. But when I did 185 building up to a max it felt easy..
Deadlift
5x135
2x185
5x205
1x235

Keeping deads pretty light, still 20 lb. off of my 5 rm trying to kinda ease into it again but still lift pretty heavy. Not gonna lie the 235 acually was pretty diffucult, today probably couldn't have gotten more than around 245. Gonna keep at the 5 rm's on fridays, then starting rotating after a few weeks or whenever the 5rm's stop working (even though I didn't hit either today, I still felt good about bench and squats was just a fluke, gonna work up to new pr with deads in maybe 2 weeks).
Goals by end of 2009:

Yah I know it would help for football, I just hate em ): I'll try em again monday.. Yah i'm hoping to get my bench and squat up queit a bit in the next 3 weeks because after that I'm going to be on around maintenence calories, so it's gonna get harder for lifts to progress.

Played some football with 3 freshies a guy my age and a guy in 6th grade today (: Went straight beast mode haha there was a pretty jacked guy that was one of the freshman but everyone else was pretty skinny..I feel like my vision has gotten better. I know backyard football has nothing to do with real football but I really think I can play JV runningback next year, idk about starting though ): I mean 2nd string RB wouldn't be to bad for a freshman I guess, starting february i'm working on speed like crazy then late february track starts so I'll be running alot endurance and sprints.

Re:Connelly's Journal - Sunday, January 18, 2009 7:28 PM ( #98 )
Yah I did cleans again today, weren't as bad but definitly need to get form check. Cleans were something like this:
65x5
95x3
105x3
115x3
First time i'd been above 95. Good news!! Cousin is coming over and parents won't be around. My cousin can take vid's with phone and use a memory card to plug into computer than I can upload videos. He hasn't done it before and I haven't either but he said he's heard it's easy. So hoping to have a bench squat deadlift and clean vid up tomorrow. If for some reason i can't figure those out maybe pics? IDK but he said it should be easy.

Alright sounds easy enough, hopefully it is as easy as it sounds (: Probably gonna do queit a few videos since I rarely have the chance to do them. Probably gonna do this
Bench 145x5 (hopefully)
Squat 165x5 (can definitly do)
Deadlift rep 205 as many times as I can (never done this before think I can get queit a few reps)
Maybe a single for deads 235-245 not really a max just higher lift
Power cleans 115x3? and maybe a lower weight to see if form changes with higher weight. Looking for advice on all the vids of course but mainly cleans.

Re:Connelly's Journal - Monday, January 19, 2009 11:52 AM ( #101 )
Here is what the vid's ended up being:
Bench 135x5
Squats:165x5
Deads:205x5

I did a bench vid 145x4 (almost got 5th) but my cousin accidently deleted it so I wasn't really up for another heavy set so I just did 135x5. Deads I was going to rep 205 till failure but my cousin thought I was only doing 5 reps so he cut it off. Gonna do cleans tomorrow if it snows and we don't have school, I was pretty tired from today..Wow my deadlifting form wasn't good. Need to keep bar closer to shins. My cousin is gonna load em at some point definitly today hopefully within next couple hours.

nice dood.  way to improvise with not having a squat rack.  you using a bench rack??? pretty short eh? lol

awsome squats man.  you should go to a big gym and do those and show off to the older guys.

oh ya, with those deads you need to have strait elbows when you begin the pull.  it looks like your bending down, bending elbows, and then jerk it up.  in the long run your damaging your elbows.  just keep elbows strait.

I would be more concerned about damaging the back with the form his using. Connely, seriously lower the weight, practice the form, and then once you get the form, up the weight. Don't wanna damage your back, esp when you're only 13-14 now.

It's snowing here. Like alot as in for here. So i'll probably work a little with the deads with 135, but not to much. No school yesterday for MLK day none today cause of snow and likely none tomorrow because of snow.

Dang school tomorrow..2 hour delay though. Here is today:
Deads
5x135
5x135
5x135
Bench
10xbar
115x6
135x5
145x4 <---I can never get 5th rep ):

Wasn't up for squats. Been working on deadlift form. Narrowed stance so I can make arms straight. Lowered hips and sticking out chest. Keeping bar touching shins/quads whole lift. Those are the main things i've changed. Still need to put a vid up at some point. Weight isn't hard at 135 just awkward. Gonna keep it lower for a while.

Re:Connelly's Journal - Thursday, January 22, 2009 5:59 PM ( #109 )
Ok pretty random workout, everything has gotten so weird with needing to fix deadlift form but here it is:
Deads
5x135
3x155
5x165
OH Press
10xbar
6x55
6x65
Push Press
6x85<---Easy but trying to give minimal leg help to keep shoulders being worked good, but get used to some higher weight, wanna get my OH Press up queit alot tbh.
Squats
85x8<---Just using what was on the bar from Presses to warm up
135x5
155x5

Well I might start BFS monday since it will fit my track season better I will be able to do alot of running with this routine i'm thinking. I'll get back to texas but it is just bad tming, BFS seems more capable of letting me slowly put weight on keeping good form. Deads really aren't that hard tbh I think I could get 205x5 even with new form but dont wanna rush things. Need to work on getting a new vid up, tried to model form off of rippetoe's vid, but of course I might still be off.

ya, its funny. you can model rippetoe's form and advice, but he will still critique anyone all to hell.  its pretty funny.  keep up the great work!  i worked on my power cleans on monday and got them again today.  i'll get a vid up.  i'm gettin stoked for cleans!!

Haha yah Rippetoe is a funny guy from the vid's I saw him do. Cleans are a really fun exercise imo, but the form is really hard to get down good. I need to work on getting a cleaning vid up, as i'm sure I will have alot of things to work on with it.

8x95
3x135
1x145
1x160
0x165
1x165!

10 LB PR on the first attempt I like did a paused bench press, I almost got it even paused but couldn't lock, 2nd time actually wasn't THAT hard, couldn't have gotten 170 though, I am starting my cut though after next week so my max won't go up much over the next couple months ):

your right about the power cleans and jumpin early.  my knees were sore for the whole weekend.  they are fine today, but not gonna squat till tomarrow.  i wish i had bump plates at this gym too because i cant let the weight fall to the floor or it would smash through the wooden plank i'm on.  my thighs are bruised from "de-racking" the weight to my thighs.  anyways, ima go get my lift on now!

Woah... Why are you going on a cut, your only like 140 right? IMO you should just keep on lifting heavy and eating a lot.

Grounded again, not sure how much I can get on here, hopefully every few days while parents are away..Haha my parents are trippin, I got 1 A 3 B's 1 C and 1 grade that would round up to a B it is an 84.5 but aparently to by parents it doesn't count as a B and it's not like i'm ever a straight A student, this is pretty normal grades, last year i'd get all A's and B's queit a bit but whatever..

if your a rb, i think i would worry about gaining some mass before you think about speed, i've seen some skinny rb's just get whacked around out there, speed is nice, but strength is better

I'm still gonna try to be up to 150 and get hopefully another 5 lb. of muscle before games start, When I say slow I mean like 5.6 range not like semi fast at all haha, well actually that was without any speed training or much strength training so it might be different now..honestly I think I could likely make some gains while I cut. Probably not with bench but squats and deads I think I could push alot. THS how big are most of the JV RB's where you live? The middle school backs around here are the same size as highschool backs it's crazy, middle school is all about size but highschool it's more about speed.
