Essentially my routine is to do 35 minutes of cardio on elliptical crosstrainers and then do my weight lifting. I do this roughly 3-4 times a week. I have been in this routine for about three months.

I started taking the supplement, Thermogain by Muscletech two weeks ago. I love what it does. It gives me extra energy and I notice it gives me that extra edge when working out. It also keeps me more alert throughout the day. I've been taking the recommended dosage for only using it for 2 weeks (2 capsules, 3 times a day). I missed my dose Monday, and continued use on Tuesday.

Here is my concern. Right before my workout Tuesday, I took a dose as recommended. I went onto an elliptical crosstrainer at the gym and went all out. I often get hardcore on that machine as it relieves stress for me. 20 minutes into the exercise, I started to get unusually short in my breath. I felt a bit light headed and when I checked my pulse on the machine, it registered at 219 beats per minute. I usually max out my heartbeat at 186bpm.

I immediately got off the machine, walked it off and then later continued my workout with weight lifting.

Here's my questions that I hope some people can address:

- Is there a chance that this supplement could cause a heart condition? Thermogain contains creatine and other things. I am probably just being overly concerned because I am new to taking supplements.
- Should I keep taking this supplement? I freaking love the energy it gives me. I can see and feel the results after only two weeks of taking it. I'd hate to quit so early just because I had a weird occurrence that could have been the result of over doing my cardio workout.

Here's Muscletech's page on Thermogain: http://www.muscletech.com/PRODUCTS/THERMOGAIN/thermogain.shtml
Check out the ingredients and FAQ's sections.

You've been taking it for 2 weeks and this is the first occurance?

These type of supplements are *not* regulated by the FDA. So let's get right to the point.

-Yes. These supplements can cause your heart to beat too fast and you can have reactions to some of the ingredients. One review I read just yesterday from another fitness site, the owner said that Yohimbie made him feel like he had flu like symptoms. So it's very possible that whatever reaction you had may be related to what you are taking.

-That's a loaded question. If you do your cardio right and diet, you won't need such supplements. Why not stop taking it immediately and see if the symptoms persist. Maybe it was a fluke. Maybe not. But if it keeps happening and you end up doing damage to yourself, that's not good either.

I just started a supplement not 3 days ago. Lipo-6. I felt fine but one morning I just felt like I had asthma (somebody choking me). I quit. I want to see if it's the supplement or just a reaction I'm having in general. It's the only thing I've changed recently. You might try the same.

It might have just been you over doing the cardio. But... it's better to be safe then sorry. Personally I would back off, monitor myself, and back off the dosage if you do start up again.
