"Competing Amino Acids" - Monday, September 08, 2008 1:35 PM
Hey everyone!  I got a quick question regarding some supplements that I'm currently taking...

I've heard that you shouldn't take glutamine simoutaneously with creatine, b/c they'll "negate" themselves out in the digestive track.  Is this true?

Secondly, if I were to take my Arginine and Caritine supplements (I take 'em pre/post workout) simoutaneously, would those two do the same?

Thanks!

Lol, I probably am!  I'm still fairly new to taking supps, other than protein.

The reason why I was so concerned was just b/c I wouldn't want to take them "wrong", and throw my money away.

Thanks for the response though!

Another question on the L-Arginine...

My workout that I am on has me taking L-Arginine both pre & post workout, along with the rest of my stack, and I workout twice a day, so a total of four doses..

It said that I should take my L-Arginine at least 15 minutes prior to taking any other pre/post workout supplements and/or shakes, I'm assuming that the Arginine competes with alot of other amino acids, etc..

So here's what I do:  about 45 mins before I hit weights, I take my Arginine powder (which tastes naaaasty)..wait 15-20 minutes..and take my Carnitine+whey protein+extra 5g's of BCAA+5g's of Glutamine.  As soon as I finish lifting (1-1.5 hrs), I take my post workout Arginine..wait 15- 20 mins..take my Creatine..wait another 25 mins..and take my whey+Glutamine+BCAA+carnitine combo.  I only take creatine post workout, since I lift twice a day.

Am I properly spacing out my supplements, time-wise?  I know it may seems like I'm "stressing" the supp-thing, but I am still fairly new to supp's other than protein, so any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Creatine is synthesized from other amino acids in your body when it is produced naturally in your body. I don't think there would be any reason why they could cancel eachother out.

Carnitine and arginine work together in your body. That is why they are commonly combined in a dual supplement.

I don't think you should worry.

Arginine goes well with other things like vitamin C and american ginseng for example and I think supplements like No-xplode have all these essential compounds. Looks like you're taking the right stuff anyway.

I slightly changed up the way I take my supplents...

For N.O., I now take White Flood, only pre-workout.  I try to take it on an "empty as possible" stomach, so I take my pre-workout protein/glutamine/BCAA (& green apple on the side) shake about an hour before I head to the gym, and then I take my White Flood a few minutes before I head out, which ends up being about an hour after my pre-workout shake.

Then PWO, I do virtually do the same process as I stated above, only I just now only take the creatine immediately PWO, and my shake 25-30 mins later.

I still plan on continuing my L-Carnitine supplementation too, but I just ran out and I just gotta make it to the store to get some more in the near future.

And as a side note, I must say I do like White Flood thus far.  Only been taking it for two days, but I did notice a different when I was lifting.

...time to head to the gym now to do my leg tri-sets..i'm sweating thinking about themm, lol.
