Cardiology is internal medicine so you are going to have a minimum residency of three years+ (after 4 years of medical school) before you can even become certified in internal medicine and that is if you pass the boards. There is then more education through a fellowship to become a certified cardiologist, this also can two to three years depending on what you decide to specialize in. You are looking at 13-14 years of school including undergrad for cardiology and a regular physician would be around 10 years in the least. It is a huge commitment and that is why doctors are held in such high regard. You have to be fully dedicated throughout that time period if you want to succeed. You don't become a doctor to be rich. You become a doctor because you want to make a impact on a persons life in the most positive and direct way. You sound like you have the drive so do your best. You might end up studying something else that you find interesting in college or you may go to med school. You will know if you are cut out for it when the time comes. Don't look at the 13 years as that long of a time. Undergrad goes by quickly and once you are done with medical school you will be working in the field which would be very cool. Just thought I would give you a realistic view of what you would be looking at if you decide to go that route.

I want to help people, I want to fix people, I want to be a doctor. The salary is enticing and a reason why, however, if I didn't want to do this, I wouldn't even think about ti because I know my methods of liking things. If I want it, I'm gonna get it. The 13-14 years of school is basically a big project, and I'm going to get an A. Hell, one day I may be your(anyone) cardiologist. Hey brihead, look out man.

Pearl, this is a goal you can reach if you really want it. Don't let all those years in school discourage you. In fact, you might just enjoy them. I loved college it was one of the most enjoyable times of my life. Keep your eye on the goal but not so much that you do not enjoy the journey there.

college loans are such a pain, and own so much of your life when you get out... especially if you cant find a steady job with your degree and stuck doing freelance work mostly for free just to build your portfolio... stupid graphic design... in the end college was fun, enjoyable I learned a lot of things...I wish I would have learned a little more, and if given the chance go back and probably pick another major...lol. I love art, but it has gotten me absolutely nothing. /rant
