rippedchick Have you ever heard that "ideal" is neck=bi=calves? Ha, give me some time woman, my neck is built up from my wrestling days when I didn't really do work other than pullups and medicine ball work, and of course actually wrestling. Now the rest of my body has to catch up. In the meantime I'm just gonna pretend that all these "ideal" people have skinny necks.

another strong day I saw some fliers in my gym for the "Strongest Boilermaker" strongman competition at my school (Purdue). I'm definitely thinking about joining this it is April 14 or 19 can't remember. My workout partner is on the rugby team so he has access to a bunch of tires and sleds that we can train with. The events are the boilermaker special pull (it is our mascot train, same as a truck pull), Purdue "P" carry (I'm guessing just a big "P" we have to carry a certain distance), Tire flip, hammer hold (no idea?), and farmers walk. Should be a fun time. Anyway my lifts tonight were as follows: Rack deads (right below knees) 225x10 315x5 405x5 495x3 585x1 605x1, damn that was heavy BB lunges 95x10 each leg 145x10 each leg 165x5 each leg Hamstring curl 25x10 each leg 60x10 each leg 95x5 each leg Leg press 315x8 405x8 495x5 585x5x2 DC calves warmup w/ BW calf raises x 10 x 3 265x4 Pull ups BWx10x3 Low cable rows 120x8 140x8 160x8

kubs- the competition is strictly for students at my college, there are something like 40,000 kids here though so there WILL be competition lol. It is going to be mid april (14 or 19 I think). As far as the rack pulls yea they are great for top half dead lift assist. For the bottom half I do deficit deads every now and then where I stand on a 4" block of wood (while the weight is still on the floor) and pull from that position. Then once you pull normally it feels like you are starting at your knees lol.

I have no idea if there will be any football players competing. They are students though so I don't see why not. The only thing that might prevent them is if the school doesn't want them to do it for fear of them getting injured. Either way it doesn't bother me.

Chalky I noticed you were mixing your grip width in close grip and wider grip with latpulldowns, what does the different grips do? Personally- I would think that the wider grip would contract the lats more efficiently whilst the closer grip utilised the traps more efficiently but I could be wrong. I'm having troubles developing my upper back is why I ask.

You have it mostly correct. Obviously the one that hits the lats the hardest is the wide grips, they are also better for the long head of the tricep. However I feel the close grips are better for utilizing the biceps (when grip is supinated), rear delts, and the pecs. Not sure about the traps but if you are doing a good arrangement of back movements then your traps should be getting hit pretty hard.

It was an awesome game. I know a lot of those guys from helping training them over the summer when I was a volunteer student strength coach. I played against kramer and hummel in high school as well. Jajuan Johnson is a beanpole but that kid eats so damn much, the nutritionists have him taking in an insane amount of calories, he has ecto written all over him. Late workout tonight cuz of the game DB flat bench press 80x10 90x10 115x7 115x5x2 Seated BB shoulder press 135x5x2 145x3 155x3 165x2, shoulders are caked Smith machine press, paused on pins 3 inches above chest 105x5 195x5 245x3, damn that's hard Weighted Dips 1 plate x 10 2 plates x 5 3 plates x 3 Farmer's hold 150 x 35 sec x 2 Crucifix hold 15 x 1 min x 2, gettin above 1 minute is hard
