 Cardio 2x a day (1st thing morning, evening)

Cardio 2x a day (1st thing morning, evening) - Tuesday, July 04, 2006 12:44 PM
Is this a good idea for a guy also lifting weights to add muscle (me.)
I tried it for a week and found myself exhausted (to the point I had to rest 2-3 days to recover)
Foolishly, I was doing (HIIT) in both sessions;
 
I was wanting to continue this because I noticed that this method REALLY attacked my body fat big time; would low intensity in the evening be advisable?
 
(mind you i'm certainly maintaining my protein input to prevent muscle loss)

If your goal is to get lean...you could do this in concert with resistance training and adequate nutrition.
 
A bonus would be to do it 1st thing in the AM..then again right after you resistance train...both times you are glycogen depleted so fat is more likely to be burned.
 
However it is far better to think of the cardio as a way to optimize cardiorespiratory function...not to burn fat...
 
You can burn more fat 24 hours a day when you are not doing cardio than you can in 45 minutes to 90 minutes of cardio...and you are likely to lose some muscle in the extended cardio.

moderate intensity is the way to go for 2 cardio sessions in a day
 
if your doing HIIT it should be the only thing u do.

I'm now happy to report that I've gotta 28w at 5'9 around 157lbs, though I'm not SHREDDED..but quite lean.
 
For now, I've cut out the cardio (I was doing no less than 5-6x a week, 45min per session) and if I continue i fear that i'll cut into muscle for sure.
 
I'm just afraid to bulk however..my diet is good..I guess I could just eat more?

Cutting the cardio IS NEARLY THE SAME AS eating more!!!
 
You are lowering the calories out instead of increasing the calories in.
 
Change your weight lifting program...and go with that alone for a weel and see if you gain weight.
