Cardio is not very important for me at the moment, 1 because it's off-season, 2 my BMI is only 21.1 and 3 it's almost impossible for me to gain weight in the form of fat. However, I don't thank no to cardio when I get the chance. As I woke up this morning at around 11 I had to run some errands on town, and, being broke, I had to take my bike, which would take 30 minutes there and 30 minutes home. Now, I didn't eat one thing before I went, and I had eaten poorly the night before, so I probably hadn't eaten anything for about 12 hours. So I went away and all. Question then, during this 1 hour bicycle ride, did my body burn fat or muscle for energy?

Some will say that you burned fat and others will say that you burned muscle. What do you think you burned?

Man I've no idea, if it burned muscle at least I can't see the losses. I really don't know, so if anyone's got an answer I'd appreciate it very much... so I'll know if cardio on empty stomach is the easy way to losing fat :D

Let me tell you what. If you workout and haven't eaten anything in 12 hours, then your body has no other fuel than your hard-earned muscles to turn to for energy. My theory is to always consume some type of protein before you workout and directly after you workout. That's my 2 cents on the subject. Others may have different views. John

HEY WESTGROVE, IM NOT 100%, BUT IM GOING TO TAKE A GUESS. I THINK, YOU BURNED STORED FAT BEING ON AN EMPTY STOMACH BUT ALSO AT THE SAME TIME YOU LOST SOME MUSCLE DUE TO HAVING TO USE THE ENERGY FROM YOUR MUSCLE'S TO KEEP YOU GOING. ANYBODY PLS CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG.

I think the most difficult thing about bodybuilding is not how to pack on muscles and cut up, but all these conflicting opinions. Here's a little something from a Swedish bodybuilder magazine: "If you eat before you do cardio the body won't immediately begin searching for stored body fat sources for energy. Instead it will at first hand look for what's recently entered the system - what you've eaten - and will initially use this before it begins looking for stored body fat for fuel..." There's lots of stuff about hormones in this article, stuff that seems very compelling arguments for NOT eating before doing cardio. Still, you TSP claim the opposite, as do many others in various articles one reads on the Internet. For now I'm gonna continue doing morning-cardio before eating anything until I notice I'm losing muscle and not fat. TSP if you find any articles that back up what you're saying please PM links.

Dude, i hope im not giving you incorrect info, i have read so much in the past few days! Im pretty sure that this was info i rec'd from Marc David, but before you quote me on that, let me print his e-book and look into it. when i find something hard i will pm you. See, im also thinking this is if you are strictly doing cardio and no lifting. I agree with taylorssportsproduct but everybody is always learning right? chow
