Cardio after a workout - Thursday, August 14, 2008 1:23 PM ( #1 )
i'm trying to reduce my body fat % by running at about 60-65% of my max heart rate after my workout to burn fat but i heard that running after your body's all worn out is really bad and will consequently burn muscle tissue as well as fat. what would be the best time to run.
except the morning because i have heard that running right in the morning does the exact same thing because your body has been fasting for 8-10 hours. When should i do my cardio the next day when I resting or
am i wrong about everything i said and just do the same exact thing that i always do :S

reducing your body fat% has to do as much with cardio and eating habits as you may know, follow a good diet, early morning cardio is good, I usually have a meal replacement at 6am, then hit the weights, and for cardio the stair master for 30mins, I have 12% bf

If you're cutting fat the #1 goal is cutting fat, right?
THe best time to run would be right after you lift. That way you're fresh to lift. Just take a pwo shake and you're golden.

Why would it burn muscle as long as you're eating what you need to be?

If you split your workout 3 days a week then you can do your cardio on alternative days. You can skip cardio if you did legs the day before that or not as intense 'cause it'll be simply too tiring.
Its not what you know, its what you can do that counts!

I do cardio before my workout, i am not trying to lose fat cause i dont have any, but it increases blood circulation which is healthy and good before a workout (in my expirience)

Yep, I do the same thing although I wouldn't call it cardio, its more like a simple warm up.

i would recomend doin your cardio after workouts, and i would also recommend doin interval training, it has been shown that while it doesnt burn as many calories overall as 30 to 45 minutes of moderate paced cardio, more of the calories burned are fat calories.
i have seen pretty good results with this, and highly recommend it.
you can also do it with pretty much any machine.
start off with a ratio of 15 sec sprint then 45 sec rest.
start off with a 5 min warmup then do about 10 to 12 intervals then 5 min cool down. also each week progessively change the ratio's, 15:45 to20:40 to 25:35 to 30:30
good luck
