in your experience whats the best way to train them? do they need to be hammered with isolations to stimulate growth because they are stubborn bastads or are they easily overtrained because of their short attachments? also if anyone has any pics of themselves/others as to what big arms look like that have short attachments please post!

You don't overtrain muscles. My beginner stages direct arm work was useless, but once they hit close to 16" they got to the point where they needed more direct work. When my row, chin-up, bench press, and parallel dips installed incorporating isolations where the only way to increase overload.

When my row, chin-up, bench press, and parallel dips installed incorporating isolations where the only way to increase overload. I still dont know if my biceps are 16". If I didnt do isolations they would not be as big as they are. I tried dropping isolations a year ago when I wasnt even as developed as now and they shrunk. I have high insertion points (extremely high). My arms will never be on par with everything else. Its something you just deal with. 16" might be a good point for some people to start doing direct work but for others like me 16" could be a genetic limit.

do your arms ever ache? so you are suggesting I utilise isolations, i.e hammer my short bi's and tri's? would be interesting to see some more pics of you arms and their insertion points, mine arms are a puny 13.5in so id be interested in seeing what short muscles look like at 16"

I wouldn't do lots of isolations, I haven't done a curl in 6 months, I've gained 10 lbs and gone from 16" arms to 16 3/4" arms. Get a solid strength building routine with compound movements and EAT! edit: I think i am a little off, because if I remember right I had almost 16 1/4 arms when i hit 202 not 16.

Sometimes people need to isolate certain muscles and some people don't, it's genetics really. I cycle my arm work more than anything, if I'm doing a full body I focus mainly just on compounds and then if I'm on a split I focus on compounds, accessory compounds, and incorporate arm and shoulder isolations. From the looks of your pics I would say about 16" sounds right.

Mine have been stuck around 15.5-16" for a long time, while everything else is gaining or dropping fat my arms have been around what they are now for a long time. I just chalked it up to me having long limbs, so filling out my arms is going to be very difficult. Good thing I dont really care about arms. :P

Creation supposedly you have to put on 15lbs to add an inch to your biceps This is pretty general and depends on how much fat and muscle weight you put on, and how you store fat and other factors like the length of your upper arm. But generally this is easy to go by if you are gaining mostly LBM.

I would not hammer them, they cant really take it, though there are different ways of going about training. Some people who really care about their arms more than anything else might specialize and put everything else on maintenance while theyre hammer their arms for 3-4 weeks and then take a break to let them recover-periodization. Just keep in mind that if you dont have much mass to begin with, the arms are small and it would be really hindering progress to do something like arm specialization. They look good on me, but they are not big by any measure.
