Calf pain while running..

hey guys i recently starting doing my "roadwork" at 5:30 in the morning. I stretch a little before i run, mainly my calves because of the soreness ive been getting recently. I live sort of in a canyon and no matter what direction i run, i am forced to go up hills (some pretty steep ones too). And the route i take takes about 7-10 minutes the run is sort of like this: - Light jog - downhill (little slope)
- Jogging - up hill (steep)
- Running - flat land (not for long)
- Jogging - down hill (steeper than the other)
- Full on sprint - flat land
That is one lap. I normally run 2 laps (want to increase but my calves been holding me back). Anyways.. after i run the first one, on my second time climbing the hill, my calf gets REALLY sore, many times i have to just walk up some of the hill because of it. Note- it doesn't hurt that bad when i run on level, but the uphill kills me. Anyways, i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on preventing this? I guess i could try and find some level ground and stay on it for the most part as a last resort.

I do, but just don't always get here daily! I would stretch after 5 mins of light jogging, to get it warm so that you can deepen the stretch safely, also, lots of water, hydration, could also be electrolytes are low or minerals such as calcium, magnesiusm, potassium. These help prevent soreness. Linda

I dont think its anything to do with electrolyte imbalances. Id say its more just your calves getting a good workout. How can you minimise it? Stop running up and down hills. You will probably get used to it if u keep doing it. If the pain persists when you are not running or walking, then you probably should get it looked at.
