So far no study has found caffeine stunts ones growth. Caffeine amps you up. Some people take it prior to workouts. Some bodybuilders use a combination of EC Stack (Ephedrine+Caffeine) for cutting (appetite suppression) or to rev up their metabolisms and give them extra energy before a workout. The key here is 'everything in moderation'.

CAFFEINE. This, usually used in coffee,or as a supplement, improves athletic performance. Overdose causes many negative side effects; insomnia, disturbances of heart rhythm, and gastric disturbances are common. Large dose and stress may lead to dysfunctions of the central nervous system. according to my mothers doctor, caffiene can effect calcium in your body. granted this depends on how much you consume a day. my mother takes calcium supplements because she has a history of bone deteriation in her side of the family. again according to the doctor, if you consume large amounts of caffiene you should have higher intakes of calcium.

I tried to give up chocolate once, as I ate a HUGE amount daily - used them as energy bars 20 a day easy. I suffered greatly for stopping cold turkey, as I didn't realise chocolate was so harmful. Coffee and Chocolate are both stimulants, they stimulate the body in different ways. Cold turkey on chocolate made me tired (couldn't sleep, wake up all the time when I did get to sleep, and had feelings of having no sleep), cranky, and my libido declined somewhat - take this seriously. My doctor had told me never to go cold turkey on chocolate when your body is use to high stimulates. Coffee being a larger stimulate than chocolate I guess your body will go through a similar thing mine did - dont give it up - its crazy. The funny thing is you cannot supercede or replace 1 type of stimulate without another. They are addictive, taste good, and not really bad for you. Chocolate has a lot of copher, which is fat. Just use less sugar in your coffee, and low fat milk. Coffee can cause fluid retention if drank with a high sodium intake.

I run 10K races and I always have 16oz of coffee about an hour and a half before a race. The caffeine really does help to stimulate your heart and muscles, especially if you're used to drinking it in the morning.

ok, adressing many points brought up. Caffeine effects your CNS, metabolism, and GI tract. 1. Caffeine does NOT stunt growth. 2. Caffeine is a Stimulant, It increases your Heart Rate, by increasing your heart rate your metabolism is indirectly increased slightly as well. 3. Caffeine acts indirectly as a MILD appetite suppresant. 4. Caffeine is a diuretic, can dehydrate you by causing your kidneys to excrete more fluids. It also causes more excretion of Calcium from your kidneys, but unless you are Calcium deprived and have osteoperosis; don't worry too much about this. The negative effect of caffeine on calcium absorption is small enough to be fully offset by as little as 1-2 tablespoons of milk. There is no evidence that caffeine has any harmful effect on bone status or on the calcium economy in individuals who ingest the currently recommended daily allowances of calcium. 5. "15,000 women found no birth defects associated with caffeine consumption even among the heaviest coffee drinkers. Similarly, other human studies continue to support the conclusion that moderate consumption of caffeine does not predispose expectant mothers to spontaneous abortion or preterm delivery, nor the fetus to low birth weight. Some studies suggest that high levels of caffeine intake may delay time to conception, but these findings are inconclusive and often inconsistent when other lifestyle variables are considered. Research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Harvard Medical School and the University of California at Berkeley show that moderate caffeine consumption does not reduce a woman's chance of becoming pregnant" -- from International Food Information Council. ---- Dont forget there are many side effects to excess caffeine intake as well. Content Level of Caffeine in Common Drinks. Coke Classic (12 fl oz) = 46 mg Diet Coke (12 fl oz) = 46 mg Mountain Dew (12 fl oz) = 54 mg Brewed coffee (6 fl oz) = 103 mg Instant coffee (1 rounded tsp) = 57 mg General Foods orange cappuccino (14 g powder) = 73 mg - ketnoe, Internal Medicine Resident - no post is to be considered medical advice
