CARB CYCLING AND KETOSIS QUESTION - PLEASE GUYS IM STUCK AND CANT FIGURE STUFF OUT - Sunday, November 01, 2009 3:46 AM ( #1 )
Hey guys this is my first time ever posting a message on a bodybuilding forum.
I have been into bodybuilding, sports etc for about 5 years and never actually treid to seriously cut until now.
I did the ketone diet for a long period , utilizing ketosis. The problem is however, i think this cannot be a lifestyle diet.
My first question guys is, does anyone think ketotsis or the anabolic solution etc, can seriously be a lifestyle diet? until age 80 lol? Because it does not encourage
fruit or veggies, thats my main concern, also the fact that ketosis doesnt sound too safe? Can you guys please clear this up for me because i would LOVE to do this
for life.
My second question is, if this ketone diet is not for life (I want a a diet for life, one that i wont come OFF) i am going to re introduce carbs (slowly ofcourse) and then do carb cycling with all the fruits and "healthy" eating. However one thing i am going to SORELY MISS is my carb up days (8-12hr intense eating, high gi, anything low fat and high carb). On the ketone diet i am doing these days and i LOVE THEM. I deplete first with full body workout and intense run and then eat eat eat eat eat.
Now this leads to my question LOL. is it possible for me to do something like this while carb cycling and still lose bodyfat or at least slowly lose bodyfat say get below 8%(from 10-11percent) in the longer term?-----Mon-No carb   Tuesday- Low Carb          Wed- no      thur- low        fri- low sat no - - - - - SUNDAY -INTENSSE CRAZY CARBING UP(After intense depletion), lol???i really want this day, it keeps me sane, looking forward to somethin during the week, and my depletion workouts are maximul crazy nutso, because i knnow that boxes of cereal with FF ice cream are waiting. please help me. The low carb days will consist of three carb meals (out of six) with three pieces of fruit(one at every carb meal), and veggies at everymeal. The no days are just six meals of protien with veggies though. Ive taken this from TWIN PEAKS STYLE OF cycling.

I am an intense runner (run at 85%+maximul heart rate for one hour straight almost everyday, unless feel burnout), particiapte in kick boxing, play soccer, and weightlift.
With the ketone diet(7+months) i am now 10% bodyfat (from 18%), i am just scared im gonna get sick in the long term. Help me and thanks guys for you answers.

Weve had big debates as to whether or not keto could be healthy long term.  Many people feel that long term it is not healthy but it really comes down to speculation.  There is no evidence that it is dangerous in the long term.  I wish I knew myself.

Try researching how to carb cycle on google.  If a "refeed" does not fit into the carb cycling guidelines, then it most likely will be going against the diet.

But why would you want a refeed day when carb cycling? You have high carb, low carb, and moderate carb days while cycling.  With keto, you don't eat carbs for a whole week, then you refeed at the end of the week.  Carb cycling won't leave you craving carbs as much since you are steadily getting them all week long, just in different amounts each day.

So just do it.  One day a week of eating whatever you want won't hurt you.  Trust me.

Not if he is really trying to carb cycle... If that is the case then he needs to do a CDK... and drop the carbs out almost entirely... so take your pick, do you want a carb pig out 1 day a week with little fat (and that is not fun either, imo)... or do you want a varried diet daily (with in the confines of carb cycling) and not get to have a carb pig out... You need to choose.

^^^ good point, a "whatever you want day" will probably not be ideal for carb cycling if you are to be strict about it.

I personally like to just stick to a balanced diet of high protien, and moderate fats and carbs....keep the carbs to earlier in the day....

This way the "whatever I want day", which I do on saturdays doesn't really mess me up.  In fact, I think it helps a lot actually.

CKD owns.....but THATS only temporary, if you ask me. TKD is more for sustaining once you get what you want out of CKD. At some point, CKD is just gonna make you weaker, and weaker, and weaker...at the same time of course, getting leaner, and leaner, and leaner. THAT'S when its time to switch to TKD.

But the great thing about the human body is it can be manipulated according to whatever you're trying to accomplish.

The only problem I have with the CKDiet is that my muscles feel so flat.

To be honest I don't even cheat on the carb up days anymore, if I do it just sets off the repector cravings all over again so I just stick to oatmeal/cereal/bread mainly.

With dieting or any other art you  are trying to master, you need to accept that it can't mastered without pain or discipline and patience.
