Burning fat - Friday, December 24, 2004 7:58 AM ( #1 )
Howdi folks, I was wondering if it is possible to lose fat from your nose and face. My face is kind of chubby, but my body is fine, I do cardio about 3 times a week and lift weights (chest, legs, arms) etc - I was wondering if I improved my diet and did more cardio could I burn the fat from my nose and face?

Thanks,

Matt

Genetically, your body can store fat in unwanted places- You say your body is okay, it's just your face you want to lose fat in. The sad truth is, spot reduction- Removing fat from a specific place on your body- Is pretty much a myth. When your body burns fat, it does so from all over- Working a particular area won't help burn fat from that area, it'll just work the muscle there. You can always try lowering your bodyfat percentage even more to see if it helps- The best way to lose fat is through proper nutrition and cardio- But if your genes have you storing stubborn fat there, you might just have to get used to it- Or look into surgery, which is not something I'd suggest to anyone for cosmetic reasons.
Of course, this is just my understanding of the situation- If anyone else has any ideas, I'm sure they'll chime in.

How would I go about lowering my bodyfat? (What sort of foods should I eat). I'm 18 years of age at the moment and weigh 156lbs, is it possible I will lose my chubby face as I get older?

Thanks again,

Matt

Yup, same thing here. I just turned 20 today and have been working out at a local gym with a curcuit program for about 9 months now and had amazing weight loss and muscle gain, but still had this kind of chubby baby face. About 3 weeks ago though, I had this idea to wear a ski mask while I was on the treadmill at home- to kind of localize the heat of working out or whatever- and it definitely drew out a lot of sweat and my face does look a tad slimmer (but I'm on the thing for like an hour a day.) I'm just sure to wash it really well afterward to avoid breaking out. It's just an idea... But yes, as we get older, we'll lose that baby fat. And as I've just now started shaving, somehow that's tightened the skin too. Just keep up with the exercising- the more muscle you put on the more fat you will burn- and just load up on the protein, but try and keep your calories in check. Just give it some time man...

cpl is right (of course). Not to compare you to a woman, but someone like Drew Barrymore...she's not overweight at all, but she has a fuller face. There are also some people who are very overweight, but if you looked at their faces and necks, you would never know they carried so much weight. We all carry weight differently and everyone has something about them they wish they could change.
Like cpl said, don't resort to surgery to remove what you don't like. Something could happen and you could end up worse off than before.
If you appreciate your body, focus on the positives of that.

I had the same problem. It drove me crazy that I looked fat in all my pictures because of my face but I had a 6-pack in real life, so I know where you're coming from. They're right, it's impossible to lose body fat in specific areas but reducing your body fat % will make your face look leaner. You can do that by incorporating many small meals into your diet and increasing your cardio. As long as you keep challenging yourself in new ways your body can keep improving.

Hi,

I am in a similar situation. I developed an anxiety disorder and associated depression over the last year and have subsequently put on weight. It has quite significantly impacted on my face which now looks much chubbier and i have a collection of fat on the tip of my nose which im quite concious about. Am I naive in thinking that if I cardio and eat nutitionally well that this fat should disappear over time and go back to how my face was? Any help would be appreciated.
