Bulking and Sport

Hello everyone, 1st post so I thought I'd get straight to the point. I play lacrosse and so stamina and fitness is really important, which means lots of treadmill work. The dilemma I have is that I'd like to put on a bit of weight. Can anyone help with how I can achieve both of these goals, or is it a case of doing one at a time?

This is kind of tricky. Well if you want to gain weight (in muscle) your gonna need to eat lots of calories, and work out frequently and intensly. Trouble is, you'd be burning a lot of calories from all the cardio you do. Lacrosse is a lot of running. If you want to get more defined, than all the cardio is great, but if you want to put on some muscle mass it's gonna be hard. The best example I can give is a football player and a long distance cross country runner. Notice the cross country runners are super thin and defined. They have very little body fat because they burn a lot of calories from their cardio. The cross country runners don't lift weights. The football player (lets say a lineman) eats like a starved lion, and lifts weights frequently and intensely. That is why the football player would get bigger and the long distance cross country runner gets smaller.

I assume you have an off season? Use this to do a bulking phase...high intensity, major calorie consumption, then as the season gets nearer star tworrying about gettin back on the cardio. If you're mid season concentrate on your fitness.
