Hi i have been weight lifting for about 4 months now, i have seen alot of good gains, anyway i still have some fat around my stomach and some on my sides and back. i was wondering that if on days i am not working out ( i workout 3 days a week) should i do some cardio like run on tredmill for 10 min then do 50 situps then do another 10 min of running, i know this will slim me down but will it take away the muscle i have worked hard to get?

I've been working in a gym for like 5 months now, almost as long as I've been lifting/building, and I've noticed that the people with more 'weight' go on the treadmill for like 15 mins and only walk or jog, that's slow progress buddy. You should run about 3 miles on a treadmill or outside, that may seem like over doing it, but it works. You need to keep up your cardiovascular system just as much as your lifting. You seem like a guy with mass beef, you're definately beigger than me, but before i started gaining muscle i had to lose the fat on my body(it wasn't alot) but i used to run like crazy. I know I'm just rambling but run, alot, more than 20 minutes and if it's available to you, i would suggest attenting an aerobics or ab class, that would help. Later.

You'd might want to consult someone about changing your diet a little, preferably someone who has lost weight and slimmed down. I just naturally lost my fat when i started lifting...It didn't have to do a certain diet or anything.

interval cardio is GREAT for losing fat. I'm cutting right now and I am losing a lot of fat and I do believe I am keeping all of my muscle. Just eat small meals often high in protein, low in fat and moderate to low in carbs. and make sure you get enough calories...less than you would burn on a normal day but still enough so your metabolism doesn;t think you are staving. thats' why they suggest a cheat day a week when dieting...jut to trick your body.

to answer your question: if you continue lifting and ADD cardio, you will not lose muscle mass. Also situps are bad on your hips and back so try something a little less strenuous and try breaking it down into something like: run 10 min/30 crunches/run 10/45 sec dead man leg lift/run 10/40 bicycles. Make sure you're running to get your heart rate up. Try 5 mph.

I run or jog 3 days a week even during my bulking phases. And i hear ronnie coleman does too I do with because it keeps my energy and blood transportation efficient. That can help muscle growth.(only if its mild cardio ofcourse)

First of all, drop those situps- Work your abs like you'd work any other muscle group, situps really don't do much in the way of burning fat at all- They definitely don't burn fat from your midsection either- When you burn fat through cardio or proper diet, the body burns it from all over- Not the area you're trying to target. There's no such thing as spot reduction. When it comes to muscle loss, if you're trying to get rid of fat, you can expect some- But you can minimize it by watching your calorie intake closely, making sure your muscles still get enough protein. You don't want to overfeed your muscles in an effort to keep ALL of your gains, since this will hinder your fat burning.
