Broken Collarbone still causing problems - Thursday, June 23, 2005 4:01 PM ( #1 )
I recently am getting back into lifting weights and have become frustrated with myself. I broke my collarbone over 2 years ago and it is still preventing me from working my chest and shoulders properly. I have a huge lump on the outher third of my right collarbone. I had seen two doctors, and they both say the lump will shrink with time, and light weight lifting will help the problem go away.

Well whenever I try to do a chest press or push up, I can feel my bone "popping" in and out of place still, even with 25 lb dumbells.  The popping occurs at about 80% of my extended range and does not hurt that much, but the area feels sore and awkward after lifting weights.

Are their other excercises that I can do that will help build my muscle back, and stop this poping and pain I am experiencing, or am I only hurting myself more  trying to lift weights. I don't like the idea of surgery, but I am considering it if there is no way for me to me "normal" again.

Thanks,
Dan

Sorry this reply is quite late.

If you keep experiencing pain on movement then id recommend getting the opion of a good ortho surgeon.

While im never keen on surgery wihtout trialing other things first, sounds like this is a problem that might best be fixed with some minor surgery.

Get a ortho consult.
