I have been home for a week and I normally work out with freeweights, but I tried the new bowflex that my dad bought and I really liked it for the ease of workouts at least. It's really easy to change exercises but I was wondering if anyone ever tried to put on a lot of mass with one of these?

I can normally bench around 300 lbs but I could barely push 250 with the bowflex, I think it's because the bowflex has constant pressure on the muscles, but I really liked the week home I had it. I'm considering one for when I graduate, since I won't have a gym anywhere near my new place and it will certainly be easier than moving 500+ pounds of freeweights when I do end up moving.

Thanks!

The bowflex and other gyms like it have their purpose, but I do not think it is to put on the mass. These machine are great spacesavers and easy to use, so I do feel they have great value. I believe if you want to build it out there is no better way than to hit the free weights.

I've heard good and bad things about the BowFlex. I mostly heard of cable malfunctions. Free weight all the way!

My wife bought me a present of Bowflex and Marcy Mach 3 + I had some free weights. I used boflex for a bit and it works great for worm ups. But I do agree that free weights do most of the work. :D
