Boiled Chicken - Friday, May 30, 2008 9:19 AM
I have been boiling my chicken lately. I have heard from many sources that this is the healthiest way to prepare chicken. However, several people have also told me that this takes many of the nutrients, including protein, out of it.

What do you guys/gals know about this?

I've never done it before, but I couldn't imagine it denaturing the chicken any more than grilling or baking

I've heard boiling broccoli will take away its nutrients. Not sure if it applied to chicken. Maybe try googling it, or hopefully someone can answer the question.

because it's so much faster and it tastes exactly the same to me (except chicken, thats not as good as grilling but its still good and i dont have time to grill that much chicken every 5 days or so, well i probably do but it would get annoying)

research the microwave and how it works
and see some reports on how the nutrients are affected by the microwave

i personally stopped using the microwave a few days ago and use my mini conventional oven instead

I thought the microve waves took out nutrients... Thats the only coooking I ever heard of that takes out nutrients. I guss it makes sense I mean our ansestors never microvaed food and its a "microwave" similar to a radio wave or a sun ray, so it would make sense, but i think your fine boiling the cicken... does it taste any different?

I dont think your going to lose enough to make a huge difference. As long as its not boiling for hours then you will be fine. Broiling or grilling would be just as healthy IMO.

i dont see how it would be a problem, it's just heating it up basically...that wouldnt make it lose protein. and as i said i saw that study saying microwaving the brocolli kept the most nutrients, i think i got it from marc.

We boil ours once in a while if we are making a certain recipe that calls for it.  Otherwise, we have a big azz George Foreman type grill that wll cook 8-4oz breasts at once, in about 6-7 minutes.  We both cook our entire weeks worth of chicken on Sundays.  Litterally takes us minutes to do a weeks worth for two people.

Oh, and I finally got the wife weaned off the microwave.  Once she learned the truth too she said she would never use one again.  I even sold the one out of our RV and made more cupboard space!

i dont see any problem with the microwave but i wish i had a george foreman grill, thats quicker than the microwave actually if it only takes 7min. and i'm sure it'll taste better.

anything wrong with just cooking on a normal grill? i've heard about some problems with it
