Popcorn Pretzels No, go for peanuts. They're 30% protein, contain mostly monounsaturated fat and apparently are as rich in antioxidants as strawberries and blackberries. So, they lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and help protect against things like heart disease. And roasting them actually increases the amount of antioxidants. They're a bulking wonder snack. The only thing is, they're often sold with loads of salt. If you can't find them without salt, buy salted and rinse them with water for a while. Or buy unsalted peanut butter and use it as a dip with chopped raw carrots or celery sticks.

I probably should correct the pretzels and popcorn statement. It really isn't bodybuilding on a budget but more of snack when I'm hungry. Source: AST One snack I recommend is pretzels. These have virtually no fat, are low in calories, and will do a good job of eliminating hunger cravings. Another snack is popcorn. But you need a hot air popper and want to avoid the microwave popcorn. Even the low-fat microwave popcorn is relatively high in fat. Popcorn is a great snack when you are just craving something to eat.

you can't say how many eggs you can eat raw without a health risk b/c any one of the eggs you eat could carry salmonella. And eat a lot more than 3 egg whites, that's nothing and if your parents won't let you eat that many, buy your own, they're only 99cents for a dozen. A lot of my guy friends go through a crate a day b/c they're such a good source of protein...cooked.

Hey Andy, sorry I'm late on this thread, dude. I drink one egg yolk a day in the morning before work. I use powdered egg whites they're way cheaper and has no chance of expiring before you consume them. 1 egg white is equal to 3 grams of protein. You can buy a one pound bag for 10lbs and most places-most grocery stores dont carry them the ones in my area do. But you can try a costco, priceclub, sams club, or something like that. One pound is equal to over 100 egg whites. And there's no gag factor. Hahaha! If you dont have money to buy the egg whites than regular eggs will do, I'm just holding off on regular eggs because I'm a much bigger guy than you and the cholesterol scares me but you're young. One thing that will help you drink your raw eggs is milk. Blend it with milk and it'll taste like milk. I dont ever taste the eggs. I like to mix it with choc and straw syrup as well. One bottle is a dollar at the dollar store and its nestle quick so its good. That'll provide you with some much needed carbs for post workout. I tried mint extract this week mixed in with the choc syrup. I am probably going to stock up my cabinet with some other extracts like almond, vanilla, and whatever else they have. That was good stuff. I'm not to worried about mercury, mainly because I'm uneducated about it, so I go through a can or two of tuna a day. I'm a busy working dad so its pretty difficult for me to get any real meals so besides chicken breasts or steak for dinner and a sandwhich (sometimes) for lunch I depend on canned tuna and chicken and my homemade protein/meal replacement drinks for most my food intake.
No, I'm not on steroids but thank you for asking.

yea I go through that much tuna too. and that's a good idea for the shakes I haven't tried nestle syrup yet I love strawberry! Is mercury poisoning a common thing? I don't hear much about it so I wouldn't know but I'm like you I don't have time for much more than tuna or a sandwich b/c it's so quick and easy. Can anyone fill me in on how dangerous tuna really is? b/c I eat like, 2 cans a day.

1 cup of milk per one whole egg=14 gram minishake. Did you add Milk, Andy? Maybe I'm just desensitized to it.

ORIGINAL: rippedchick and that's a good idea for the shakes I haven't tried nestle syrup yet I love strawberry! I'm chock full of ideas I just need the situation and I come up with something. I've been playing around with the idea of writing a body building recipe book. There's a misconception that body builders have to eat bland food but a little ingenuity will do you some good. Once I have enough recipes (I'm looking for about 180 pages), Marc is going to help me get an ebook published.

Hello, Iam from former East Germany and I trained weight lifting for many years. 20 years ago we didnt have any access to supplements or very little and we were relying on natural food, like tons of cottage cheese, fish protein, pleanty of beef, soya etc. I have discovered last year that oats contain 26% of protein and quinoa from Bolivia also contains more than 25%protein and all the essential and none essential amino acids among omega3,6 and 9. Its not very cheap, but with luck you can get a 5kg back for ca 20 english pounds in London. [image]local://3380/6987A42FE5E44A32932C43B8DA256E11.jpg[/image]

As far as I know there is no scientific evidence that shows that eating foods hi in cholesterol cause OUR cholesterol to increase. Just as eating foods hi in fat do not make us fat. The medical community is very ignorant about cholesterol and BP. Actually I don't think they're ignorant but there is BILLIONS of dollars to be made on drugs. Even if you severly limit your chol. intake you body will just make more. Chol. is good for testosterone and test. is good for making muscle. Us dedicated exercisers are totally different then your avg person that eats a lot of white flour and soda and never stresses their body through exercise. All the commercialized BS out these days is targeted towards them. Sorry that was way off topic. I add 2 egg whites to my old fashion oatmeal in the mornings. Also add frozen blueberries and xylitol for a healthy sweetner.

Man, I don't know how all you guys are eating raw eggs. I never eat them raw. Here are a couple recipes that work good for eggs. mix all ingredients in a bowl 1/2 cup quick oats (not instant, the one-minute-boil-in-water ones) 2 egg whites 1 whole egg 1 teaspoon cinnamon dash of nutmeg pinch of sugar one banana chopped up (I mash about half of it up in the bowl and leave the rest chopped) cook it in a skillet like a pancake top with peanut butter or low sugar syrup ~25g Protein, ~60 g carbs, decent amount of fat if you use peanut butter but most is unsaturated For scrabled eggs, I like to mix it up. I make Cajun style, Mexican style, Greek style, whatever comes to mind. I use 4 egg whites and 2 whole eggs. I also sometimes microwave a potato until it is almost completely cooked and then cut it up and add it in with the eggs (with the skin left on) Here are the usual ingredients: for all of the mixtures I first start off with these two staples: teaspon of garlic powder and a dash of pepper for Cajun, I add store bought Cajun seasoning to taste, some red pepper to taste, and a seasoning mix I get at the store called Chef Tony's Creole seasoning (it is salty so I use it in the place of salt in spicier dishes) for Mexican I add a teaspoon of cumin powder, red pepper, about 1/2 teaspon of oregano and a little of the Chef Tony's for Greek I use about a teaspoon of oregano, and about 1/2 a teaspoon of thyme I then top them with some cheese. Also if you add potatoes, you will need more seasoning Without potatoes you get: ~30g Protein, barely any carbs, ~6g fat With a medium sized potato you get: ~30g protein, 70g carbs, ~6g fat For canned tuna or chicken, I like to make tacos with low carb (I like them cause they are high in fiber) or corn tortillas. I just use some cumin, garlic powder, red pepper and mix it with some cheese, salsa, and black beens. Then I microwave it until it gets warm and the cheese melts and use lettuce and tomato to top it In this you get about 35g Protein, carbs depend on the shell, ~4g fat (if you use a low car tortilla they usually have about 8g Fiber so with the beans you will get ~15g fiber Most of these meals make for about 500 calories

Here is a quickie tip...I know whole is the best way to go, and I usually spend at least one hour of my day cooking (my hubby and I both work 3p-11p, so I cook our meals to take with, most days...) If, however, you don't have the time to cook, say, because you overslept or something, a good choice is LIFECHOICE frozen meals. You can find some varieties with around 360 cals, so for me, they fit great with what I have to take in... They are lo-carb, too and they taste great. I like the Chicken Parmesan and the Homestyle meat loaf. (This isn't a Swanson dinner-it's the real meat deal...and the veggies are good, too.!) The fat g's run a little high, so keep that in mind. They're good, though! I got 2 today at my local Wal~Mart-$2.43 apiece! Good eats when you are outta time. (I overslept this morning ) Just a suggestion for something quick-wouldn't do it 3x a day everyday or anything.

How many months do you have to do this kind of diet. I'm interested. It is very cheap and not so time consuming
