Blue Screen of death

what uuuuuuuup everyone? (very high pitch) Can anyone help me out, everytime I turn on my computer it gives me the blue screen of death (with error 0x000000007, and then some more numbers) I restart it and it load windows normaly, I'm not really sure what's causing it, ran Avast Home E. and it detected 3 viruses, deleted 2 of them as they were useless files and the other one was a System Restore file so I moved it to the chest. Thought that would do it.. no. Still getting the BSD. Is there a program or something I can download to check my pc for errors or something? what can I do other than reformatting the HDD. Also I doubt it's a hdd problem, it's a new pc. PC Stats: Running Windows xp sp3 2gb ram RADEON 4770 MB Sapphire PI-AM2RS780V AMD Phenom II x4 940 (Stock) Thanks in advanced

You most likely have a stick of bad memory. If that's not the problem, then I'd put money on the processor. Do you have two sticks of 1GB? If so, try booting with only 1 stick installed and see if you blue screen. If it blue screens, try the other. If both blue screen, run this: http://memtest.org/ It will run your memory through tests before the OS even loads. You can either burn the ISO onto a CD/DVD, or put it on a USB Memory stick. Just change your BIOS to boot from CD or USB so the tests will run. If that passes (give it at least 6 hours), then try running Prime95 from within Windows to see if that can force a blue screen. If it does, then it's your processor: http://www.mersenne.org/ You should run both of those programs on any new PC (or Mac) you build (or buy). While most PC's may boot and appear to run windows just fun, if the RAM or Processor is bad and once and a while computes something incorrectly, it can lead to corrupt data on your hard drive. Over time, your OS may stop working, and worse, some of your data may become unusable.

Could it be a driver or something? The pc came with a trial version of windows 7 and i formatted and installed windows xp sp3. it had no problems with Win7... I'd like to try and see if it's a software problem first, because if it's a hardware problem it's gonna be a pain in the ass.. Just in case I updated my vid card driver as it was making some trouble, let's see if that's it

I'd go with the bad stick of memory idea, thats when i started getting blue screens when i had my overclocked memory go bad. I ran memtest and it found hundreds of errors reading and writing to the memory i suggest you download it and see

Just in case I updated my vid card driver as it was making some trouble, let's see if that's it It could be a driver... but I listed the most likely causes for a blue screen. Whatever you decide to do, run both memtest and prime95. Run each test on their own while you sleep. If it passes after 8 hours your system CPU and Memory should be good (even better if you can let it run for 24 hours with no errors). You can ignore testing these two key components in your computer... but it may come back to haunt you later. IMO, it's better to check the hardware for these types of problems rather then the software. If it passes both memtest and prime95, start looking at what else is connected to your computer and the drivers you are using. Also... don't use Windows XP, Stick with Windows 7.

Glad you found out it's bad RAM. Remember to run the test on the new memory you receive. Run it for 24 hours to ensure no errors pop up. You should still test the CPU too (with Prime95) once you are sure the memory is working perfectly. Once both are working correctly with no errors, re-install the OS. Since you had bad memory, you most likely have a lot of corrupt data on that hard drive (including OS data).

I hate to reformat my pc but yeah you must be right.. windows 7 keeps loosing aero effects control when it returns from hibernation or sleep mode
