Bicycling - Tuesday, July 15, 2008 9:08 AM
Recently I have started bicycling. I do about one hour 3-4 times a week. Will this reduce my muscle mass?  I am trying to bulk up but stay lean.

doubtfull but long distance cardio and building muscle do not go hand in hand.  But if you eat enough and maybe take some BCAA's before and after your rides it would help.

bulk up AND stay lean?  haha..  sorry, kinda made me laugh.      you gotta pick one or the other for now..    can't really have both.     lean usually means low body fat, which usually means that you will lose a small amount of muscle mass, but mostly fat.

bulk means exactly that.  bulk.

the normal way things happen usually are, a bulk for a certain period of time, followed by a cut.

It's a whole lot easier to do one and then the other otherwise it'll be slow going seeing progress. I, however, bike at least 80 miles a week out of necessity and it has caused me to start cutting leg lifts out of my program because my quads are fatigued all of the time.

i like to go on the stationary bike just for 10min, increasing resistance every 2 minutes just to get my blood flowing. plus, it actually might help your quads develop..unless your biking 80 miles and cant do leg lifts

everytime there is a question like this most seem to say that you cant keep mass but i do.  i run 5 miles a day and i still gain mass.  it is really going to all depend on your diet, if you eat enough... you will grow

but then you'd have to eat up those calories you burned off. that sounds fun...NOT
