Bicep Tendonitis Recovery Time - Wednesday, October 15, 2008 9:43 AM
Hi All,

I'm new to the forum.  I've been lifting for a year and developed Bicep Tendonitis 3 mths ago.  I finally bit the bullet and went to see my MD.  He prescribed hi doses of Ibuprofen to bring down the swelling, and recommended I stop lifting for 30 days to give my tendonits to heal.

Here's where I have a concern:
I'm currently 38.  2 years ago, I weighed 255 lbs and 36% BF.  Now I'm 182 and 13% BF.  I've worked my a$$ off to get where I am today.  I started with cardio for the 1st year to get the weight down, and then 2nd year has been a combo of lifting and Cardio (5 miles 2 - 3 times a week).   I'm afraid that if I stop lifting for 30 days, it'll hurt my program.  I've worked to long and hard to reach this goal.  My main goal is to get under 10%  mybe 8% bu summer.   my quesiton is:

  1. How long did it take you to recover from Bicep Tendonitis?
  2. Are there any arms, chest, & shoulder lifts I can do without aggrevating my Tendonits?
Thanks,
Rich

How to Cure Tendonitis

1.  About 4 months and it comes and goes.  My elbow was killed me about 3 months ago and now it's totally fine to the point where I just did my personal best on tricep dips.  I quit doing skull-crushers entirely and it bothered my elbow too much.

2.  Lots.  I just stopped doing any exercise that bothered it and found an alternative.  At one point, doing barbell curls was entirely too painful.  I stopped.  Didn't do them for months.  I'm back and fine.  But dumbbell curls were great, cable curls didn't bug me and close grip pull-ups were fine.  Just find another exercise (there's thousands) that works the same muscle group and doesn't bug you.

Sometimes it's just the angle of that exercise that bothers the area.

I've found that stopping whatever I'm doing that bothers it, doing some home therapy and finding alternative exercises has allowed me thru far to work thru the issues.

Thanks for the website. I check it out and it helps.  I'm going to start icing up my shoulder at night. We'll see how it goes.
