Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey is the best in my opinion, it tastes great and it is somewhat cheap.  Another good protein supplement would be MuscleMilk, it has more stuff in it than just protein and it also tastes great.

What are you goals?

Don't mean to confuse you but there are different types that will serve different purposes.

Eg. Whey is quickly digested into the bloodstream so preferable first thing in the am and after a workout

Casein or a blend type protein is more beneficial during other times of the day because it releases slower into the blood stream

A hydrolyzed whey isolate is best during and immediately after a workout because it goes into your blood stream almost immediately.

trust that helps.

ok. Protein is the most important thing when it comes to bodybuilding and i will definitely agree that it also depend what you want in the protein. I personally like Nitro-Tech because it tastes good and its low calorie and low carb which is helping me because i am trying to lose weight. I'm not saying i'm a low carb person but if your goal is to lose weight, Nitro-Tech would be an excellent choice.
Casin protein is found in milk so if u don't want to buy Casin protein, drink a glass of milk before you go to bed and you'll be all set. Casin protein digests slowly and is best before going to bed.
I personally don't like getting my protein only from a protein supplement (even though it does help a lot) so i generally tend to eat a lot of meat, poultry, and fish. And remember, if you are trying to build muscle, you will need an adequete amount of carbs.

Like the other guys said man its all about your goals and also about your budget. I can tell you now that one of the best WHEY proteins out on the market is GNC's Mega Whey Extreme mainly b/c of the way its processed and the high amino acid profile. All manufacturers make their proteins differently ...so cheap proteins often mean there made cheaply. Mega Whey extreme is extremely fine and mixes up instantaneously. The scoop size is small and its about 20g per scoop. If your lookin for lean muscle mass go w/ the extreme. If your lookin to gain go w/ muscle milk or cytogainer. Another good brand is the ON brand. There protein is reasonably priced and has about the highest protein content of any on the market...its all up to what your goals are....Casein= Slow acting..good @ night...Whey= fast acting good for recovery aka after workout and in the A.M....Egg Protein= Slow acting/medium acting ...good throughout day and in the morning
