Bench Press - Wednesday, September 03, 2008 8:52 PM
I've seen some ppl bench while their feet are in the air. Is this suppose to make them work their core as well? Have any of you guys seen ppl do this at the gym?

feet in the air? never heard of that one before.

I suppose it would just put unnesisary work on your core to just holdyour legs up...your bench pressing, not doing an ab exercise. Yourgonna be wasting energy.

Some people think it works their core,
others say it straightens their back lessoning the impact?
I think most do it to look like they're technical and smart.

Its dangerous and uneccesary, it makes you unstable and unable to lift as much weight.

What the hell do they do?  Just stick their legs straight out in front of them?  It's hard to picture lol.  I have heard of feet on the bench, but never feet in the air

I did try to record someone doing, but I was too afraid that they wud see me, so u can't really see anything in the video. though i do have this one dude where i recorded his deadlifts, and rows..quite bad form. i did try to upload it last time, but dbb said the video format wasn't supported...next time i have time, i'll convert it...

I have seen this before, so I can describe it to you.  The guy benching will hold his legs up but bent, like he is doing crunches.  So, his thighs are perpendicular to the floor, and and his shins are parallel.  I tried it once warming up, and I almost fell off the bench.  I think that means my lats aren't big enough yet...

just look at Arnold, he was doing his bench with his legs raised.

It's only good for your back staying on the bench.

I like doing it for warmup.

youtune arnold and bench and you'll see it.

It's dangerous and stupid. The natural curve in the back shouldn't be straightened under any circumstances. Tell them they're retards and don't follow their lead. :p lol

Just because Arnie did it ON A WARM-UP doesn't mean it should be a regular practice.
