Behind the neck exercise - a bad workout?

I always hear that doing behind the neck press or lat behind the neck are bad. is this true?

Possibly. Due to neck strain. (Bending the neck) If it's not the muscles, it's the spine. The neck is used to support your head all day long, as your back is used to hold your torso up all day long. Screw either of them up, and you'll suddenly realise how much you use and rely on them to carry out your everyday duties, let alone workouts. But I can't imagine doing a lat pull down behind your neck... Your elbows are too far back.

Lat behind neck = extreme strain on rotator cuffs.
