Begginer Needs Tips!! - Friday, January 02, 2009 12:49 AM ( #1 )
Hey Guys,

Im just starting off doing wieghts ( I bought them a while ago but been a bit reluctent to start because of my little knowledge ). So i just want to work on abbs and pecks at the moment, just for showing off and stuff like that cos my body aint good (if you look at pics below). I do not want to take any suppliments if possable.

I was wondering what exercises i should do, how frequently, how many reps, and all that stuff, so if you could please reply to this thread and give me tips i would be very greatfull.

I currently do 3 sets of 10 of just normal push ups, which i know is bad and it doesnt hurt at all the next day so i dont know why i bother doing that. Just thought i should tell you that.

Cheers

Pushups aren't going to do much for you tbh, first off i'm going to tell you right now you SHOULD work your whole body, but since that wasn't the question flat bb bench and flat/incline db bench are good bench press exercises.
Goals by end of 2009:
Bench 205
Squat 255 ATG
Squat Clean 185

A whole body approach is much better, it is much easier to gain small amounts in several areas than larger amounts in a few areas this will make you appear much bigger than only working on a few muscles.

I'm assuming you are using dumbbells at minimum to workout. Rather than give you a long explanation of what you should really do I'd suggest you check out dumbbell-exercise.com
this will explain tons of at home exercises for bodybuilding at home.

You can build ab muscles but to get them to really stand out, your diet is the most important ingredient.
If there is somewhere you can rig one, bar dips are the 'upper body squat'. "If you want your upper body to sprout wings kid, do bench, dips and curls!" The owner of the first gym I went to in 1973 said that on many occasions and he was right!

Ab's are usually an indicator of a low bodyfat%.  calorie diet + cardio = low bodyfat.

To build ab muscles however, compounds movements can sometimes to do so alone but usually they will require direct stimulis.

Your right curls help develop the upper body alot more than OH Press.
