looking for exercises to improve swing power for baseball. I've seen this nike commerical where derek jeter is holding a 35lb barbell weight and kind of twisting back and forth with it. Looking for exercises like that.

yep wok the core a good amount w/ weight, and do squats and deadlifts. legs and the core need to be tied to a limber, loose, upper body to get a good swing. this would help you in pitching too.

I have seen in the muscle and fitness mag a move called a axe chop. Take a dumbell and act like your chopping wood with it.Preform this exercise striking from the left and the right. Its a great core thightener.

You can also do medicine ball situps. You will need a partner. While doing situps use a medicine ball, Take the medicine ball overhead and while ascending to the up position launch the ball as far as possible.

Also hanging knee raises. Just about anything to strenghten the core will help alot.

Yes the core includes the lower back.ie. deadlifts, superman's(laying on the floor face down, lift your legs and arms off the floor and hold for 5 seconds. slowly return to start position...repeat add small weights as needed.

Hope this helps.

Work your forearms. The stronger your forearms, the more power you can get. Also work your core as already stated. The best way to hit with more power without any doubt is to improve your batspeed. One way to do this is by swinging with heavier weighted bats than what you are used to swinging with. I swing with a heavier bat in batting practice than I use in the game so my body is used to swinging the heavier weight therefor I can swing my lighter game bat faster. In opinion batspeed and mechanics will do more for power than almost anything else.
