Barbell bench vs Dumbbell
-
Sunday, June 29, 2008 3:09 PM
Does using a barbell to bench make it much easier to lift more weights? Which do you prefer? Which works the best? I've been using dumbbell bp's ever since I started. One, because I don't have a spotter for me. Two, I really don't like barbells. They are very uncomfortable and the bar always wobbles. Thoughts?

ORIGINAL: lovestonedtim Does using a barbell to bench make it much easier to lift more weights? You can lift higher numbers with a barbell, but you have to balance dumbells more so it's less. Which do you prefer? I like barbell bench just because that is what people relate to when you tell how much you bench. If you say you bench 250 with barbell, or you say you can bench 100 pound dumbells, the 250 is going to sound better. Which works the best? Not totally sure, but I would say dumbells are for building muscle because they incorporate more stabilizer muscles. I've been using dumbbell bp's ever since I started. One, because I don't have a spotter for me. Two, I really don't like barbells. They are very uncomfortable and the bar always wobbles. What do you mean by the bar wobbles? It shouldn't be hard for you to balance it if you're using dumbells( because these require more balance). Thoughts?

Do both. I like DB since I can push myself really hard without dying.

Thoughts? i like barbell bench. when it's done right, you can get better results on it IMO. but the main problem with barbell is you can rip or tear your muscle, and that can be BAD. dumbell is more isolation, so it's pretty good. i do chest twice a week. mondays i do barbell, tuesday i do dumbell.
